I have to have the house tented for termite control. Is there anything I should know or do to protect the bees?
I went to pick some avocados the other day and found a swam in the tree. I shook them into a box and was a happy camper. There was a blade of comb in the center of the cluster. Is it normal for a...
In our town bee law is enforced by the animal control dept (dog catcher). a subdivision of the police. But you can also get nailed by code enforcement (don't ask how I know) if your are not...
I have a full suit, which I like for the protection as the bee are sometimes aggressive. I think if I were starting new, I would opt for a jacket and veil, because of the heat factor.
Does the colony left in the hive after a swarm is cast off tend to be more aggressive, less aggressive or?
Thank you both. There are only 2 hives, one 2 mediums and one 5 mediums. I think I can move the small one as a stack. Am I better off moving them as close as I can to where they are now or as far...
I need do some radical trimming to my pepper trees. The hives are directly under the trees so I will have to move them (the bees not the trees). As long as I am doing that I also want to...
If I were a VA resident I sure would be checking this out. Your have to pay income taxes on any grant money, but still real cheap hives.
anyone familiar with craftsman model 113.12181?
I know next to nothing about woodworking, but could one use the tilt on the table saw blade and slowly bring it to 90 degrees to cut the hand hold?
What model did you get? I see they have a portable on sale new for 399. Looks like it is very stoable.
To start on one or two of last years resolutions.
Never mind. I think I found my answer in an older thread.
That makes sense. What about the frame space in the brood nest? Push them together and put the replacement on the outside or just put a new frame in the slot? The lowest overnight temp for the...
I want to replace a few old frames in the brood nest. The frames have both brood and stores. I do not run QEs but do have one. Should I put on the QE and move the frames I want to replace above...
I have not heard anyone mention powdered sugar rolls to count mites. Could you guys with lots of experience comment on the pros and cons of a sugar roll count?
About 5 years ago I responded to a craigslist post wherein a man was giving away all his boxes and frames. I brought them home with the intention of one day taking the equipment to the county (I'm...
I think I read somewhere that one of the things CBing does is set some guides for the new comb, ie if you put a bunch of empties next to each other the bees will build a comb so thick on one that...
When I first read Pamela's question I of course related it to my own experience.
By city ordinance I am only allowed to have 2 hives, and am supposed to do all I can to prevent swarming. How to...
one of the best answers to a question I have seen on beesource!
if that was directed to me I should have made clear that the zipper does as Ravenzero explained. I meant that I have a zipper that allows for the removal of the hood and I did remove it to wash the...
Walt, I'm probably just being stupid (again), but I can't find the article in POV nor with a search of 'drone management'
Yep, just being stupid. Found it after clicking on your name.
Sergey, my suit has a zipper.
I built my first solar heater this summer. Since I was having problems getting the wax out of the pan after it cooled I started putting water in with wax. That let me cut around the wax to get most...
