    Re: Honey taste?

I personally don't like sweets including honey. Ive sold out of honey every year I've had it. I do taste it but it's way too sweet for my liking. I usually pull honey before the goldenrod and...

    Re: Celebrity Beekeeper

I would be more impressed if Morgan Freeman did cut outs. Such as one of those cut outs you go and check out, figure it should take 4-5 hours, get into it and it's a nightmare from sun up to sun...
  6. Re: Can you usually keep more hives in a more urban area?

We don't have any bee laws in town here but I always err on the side of Aurora bee code and only run 2 hives per location inside the city limits. If you pick spots that have nice flyways where the...

Re: My first year with 8 frame mediums

I run 8 framers inside the city limits, overwintered two of them in single 8 frame equipment last year. Both of the hives mentioned will be overwintered in 3 deep 8 frame boxes this year. Most...
  8. Re: Cleaning now Blackened Beeswax splotches from the driveway

A guy I pollinate for has a portable hotsy pressure washer that I have borrowed on occasion. It burns kerosene for the heat and works great for removing wax, propolis, oil, grease, paint, etc. from...

Re: Want to work bare handed?

Same here. I did a cut out from a log a few weeks ago where I had my arm in the log to my shoulder holding a 12" breadknife cutting comb. First cut out I've ever done by feel. Took 3 stings, 2 to...

I would love to hear the conversation between him and the bee inspector. Art guy, "I forgot my lift, :ws:."

    Re: Comb Too Old?

Another beekeeper in my area has 70 year old comb his father used in honey supers and is still in use. I have cut out black comb that was hard as a coffin nail during removals that I put into a...

Re: Testing a Electric Bear Fence.

I bait my fences too, it really helps. Only thing I don't like about bear meat is it's a bit greasy. I can deal with greasy :)

:wiener: And they do make into good sausages :wiener:

They sell fence testers... They're pretty cheap but not as much fun as peeing on it :lpf:
  15. Transporting hives to pollination jobs w/o a forklift

I use a ramp and a dolly. Wouldn't mind having a lift gate.

Edit: I forgot I have a line on some slide on forks that will fit on the bucket of my front end loader which will make loading the...

    Re: Watermelon pollination

Before I set up for pollinating melons I ask how many hives they want per acre, I tell them its a 1 month contract or to end of bloom or until they want the bees gone - whichever comes first. I need...

    Re: Honey quantity???

I usually get about 80# from a 10 frame deep and 30 - 40# from a 10 frame (9 frames spaced) medium if I remember right. I've never run shallows.

Re: Solar wax melter not melting brood comb

Old brood comb has very little wax in it. I typically do put it in the melter and then toss it in a bucket with the rest of the slum gum.

I had a similiar problem, mine was solved when I found a bullet on the bottom board. Someone made them a nifty new entrance which they still use.
