I am about to tag-a-long some hives with a fellow beesource member this weekend. I am thankful that he has been so kind to allow me to do this as well as the opportunity to learn how this is done on...

    Re: Uncapper?

Havent tried knife and hot water, can only assume that is messy, slow and frustrating. I have the electric knife and I think its a waste of a $100. The uncapping fork is ok, another thing I tried...

If using Sharpies you can erase them easily with rubbing alcohol or baby wipes.
  5. Re: Record keeping: There's got to be a better way...

Definitively not a commercial keeper here but I knew there had to be a better way after my first time out inspecting my initial 2 hives. We did the notebook thing, but that gets messy and takes too...

Re: A question about upper entrances

    I tried this and failed.

I heard about excluders and how it lessens the life of the bee and how you get less honey, etc etc etc. So I decided to drill a 1.5" hole in my supers and leave the...

    Re: cleaning the extractor

The Bees will clean your equipment for free, then all you have to do is a little wipe down with a wet wash cloth.

Re: MOVING BEES, What did I do wrong?

I closed them up Early Friday morning before they started foraging to get as many bees as possible.

Not a permanent move, just trying to catch some clover and/or sourwood. Will be bringing them...

Re: Local store vs hobbiest honey.

I agree with everything everyone has said here. When I first got into keeping our mentor had instructed us not to under sell our honey, to treat it as better than store bought. I have to agree with...

Re: Pros & Cons of Plastic Foundation

LOL Shinbone, I think we share the same bees! Wood/Plastic is what we use, been pretty good. But Plastic/Plastic is terrible, they seem to hate it. I've had some for almost a year that came in a nuc...

    Mbeck,

I keep hearing about Brazilian Pepper, where can you find this? Is it usually on State property? Not heard of Tallow, and cabbage palm is mostly in swamps, no?

Poll: Re: To smoke, or not to smoke...

My experience mimics that of StickyBears. I have a smoker and used it the first 3-5 times we went into the hives, it didn't seem to make much of a difference for me. Seems to be more of a hassle...
