    I live in South East part of TX, think we have much of a winter? lol Most of the time, its heat that we combat with ... but easily fixed with SBB and adding a top vent (worse case scenerio)

    Does it matter what color the hive bodies/boxes are? Wife wants to take ownership of a new hive and paint it a darkish purple.... rest of my hives are white!

    That would be the suit I highly recommend and I use one down ehre in the south. It gets dang hot down here during the summer (100'F if not more)

    What I did was:

    1. get a 5 frame deep nuc
    2. put deep frames into 2 medium boxes, in the center with med frames on both sides (10 med frames total).
    3. rotate a deep frame on the "outside edges"...

    As a beginner keep I would suggest try feeding them a week and see how they do, maybe they needed more food? If both nucs are weak, you may want to combine them and get another nuc this coming...

    Today when I was going through my hives, I noticed a worker bee doing a figure 8 dance while shaking her abdomen a few times in a timely manner.... Is there a meaning to this?
