I have 7 packages of CheckMite+, unopened, of 10 strips per package that I will not be using. If anyone is interested in them please contact me at: fletchoneday@aol.com
Hope everyone is doing...
I've tried it and if it's done right it's wonderful. I ;did it wrong though. DON'T fill the bags too full--if they leak into the hive then it will come out the front and you're inviting robbers to...
I like the term "cluster stasis" in a weak hive.
Thanks for all the input.

Hi Dave,
The hive was requeened last fall.
Ummm, I did see pollen but I don't think it was near the cluster. There was plenty of honey though. The cluster was all the way to the top bar and...
My mentor is similar to Dragonflys'. He is about 74 and loves his bees. He's a very gentle man of few words but has lots of experience. I don't see him much anymore, but I do know he tries new things...
The easiest and quickest answer is to just shake them in after you've taken out the frames. Put as much of the swarm in the box, and gently but forcefully shake them--like your going to forcefully...
Yeah, Michael. I hope everyone will participate. If anything, it will be fun reading what you all have to say. On some of these threads I laugh out loud after reading some of the comments and find...
I was finally able to check my one hive at Bernheim today, after we witnessed a release of a Golden Eagle from rehab. (beautiful and touching sight)
The hive was dead due to "starvation."...
Jerry Hayes, who used to work for Dadant & Sons, and his wife homeschool their 3 (?) children.
It's a tough job sometimes, but I wouldn't have it any other way.

Hi New,
Where in KY?
I bet it was a coon or possum. They are both good climbers. I have heard we do have black bears, but then it seems the whole hive would be disturbed.
My neighbor across the...
I found this site while I was doing some homeschool research. Sorry to repeat post it , if it's been posted before. http://cvs.anu.edu.au/andy/beye/beyehome.html

The "cow killers" I'm familiar with are the real pretty black and red velvet crawling insects that look like an ant on steroids. Actually, they are in the ant family I believe.
As for the Japanese...
I had a possum problem and actually, think I still do. I caught the critter sitting at the entrance snapping at the bees coming out.

Thanks for the info--I'll check out the site and guess I have a bit of painting to do.

PS:Personally, I think bats are cute and fascinating. But so are mice...well, mice aren't...
The EAS master beekeeping program was discussed at the HAS meeting last summer. I don't remember the statistics, but it was something like only 1 out of 100 people taking the course/tests passed. It...
My neighbor made me a bat box for my birthday a couple of years ago which I have not hung up yet. He painted the inside of it black--I've heard the inside should not be painted--and he painted the...
The BP station!

Last week while at my boyfriends house I saw the most fascinating National Geographic documentary about the giant Japanese hornet. I assume it's only found in Japan , although, I believe we do have a...
Where does a bee go to go to the bathroom?
Denise
PS:I'll try to come back more often to give a reply!
I bet Hoosier Hiver is still in Thailand or on his way back. He's got a lot of catching up to do.
Denise
Morphic,
I'm here in KY. Sept. is about the time I put my mouse guards on.
D.
Hillbilly,
Wouldn't the anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties of the honey prevent infection?
Denise
Loggermike,
Just curious--do you use screened bottom boards?
Denise
Rob,
No I'm not a member of any club. Eventually I'll get there! I'll have to ask about your extraction system the next time I'm in Kelley's. If you're ever there giving a talk or demo let me know....
