Re: How long 'til I check?

Do not worry about the rain and the newspaper. They will not get enough moisture to hurt anything. The bees are probably already dragging out pieces of the newspaper.

    Re: Backfilling

It is normal for bees to make queen cups. If there is no larva or egg in the cup it means nothing. You can move some of the partially drown frames from the top down to the second if you want. I have...

Re: How to know if there's a flow?

There is a dearth July and August normally. When the grass stops growing because of dry hot weather there is no flow for the bees. There is a fall flow and the bees can sock away some winter stores....

Re: How to know if there's a flow?

I live in middle tn about 140 miles from you. The heavy flow usually starts in May and starts to taper off the First week of June. Of course the weather has a lot to do with that. When the clover is...

Re: Why isn't my Queen laying?

I am glad it worked out. It is always a great feeling to see that things are as they should be.
If you have capped brood she has been laying for more than a week now.

    Re: What type of paint?

Outdoor Latex in a simi-gloss is what I like. Easy to clean up and holds up well. I feel that Semi-gloss sheds water better and does not stain as bad. I do nt believe the bees have trouble finding...
  13. Re: New guy...ready for someone to tell me I did it all wrong

As for the frames, you may want to consider a small air brad nailer gun. (I prefer using staple style with 2 legs) It should take less than a minuet to assemble one. I do mine in groups of 5. I lay...

    Re: Crystallized honey...I think

  16. Re: How many pounds of honey did you produce this year??

I averaged 66 pounds per on 8 hives. This was a pretty good year considering the drought . A lot of my fellow bee keepers in the area were not as lucky.

Re: Swarms keep leaving after installation

It is not uncommon. I have had it happen before. If you will put a frame in with open brood they will stay. I have never had them leave using this method.

Re: hives full of bees but not stores

If they are bioling over with bees add the super. Thwy will continue to add stores the the brood box. Once they decide to swarm you will not be able to stop them without a split or some other action.

I always smash them when they give me the opp and make it easy. You will never get rid of them one at a time. Some how one less does make me feel better.

Re: I had to move them into the woods.

They were fine in the sun. I also live in the Nashville area. I have one hive that catches shade and it has twice the SHB as the others. Always ask the question before you take action.
