Re: Bee Inspector coming next week

Cool. I would like to spend some time with an inspector in my apiary. As it is now, I have to sneak up on the commercial and his sons and berate them with questions. Sometimes I get drafted for...

    Re: WHY! WHY! WHY!

My ad blocker has strong kung fu. I only see the ads momentarily when my browser is lagging and the ad blocker hasn't caught up. I do unblock for a session once in a while to see what I've been...

Re: Neighbor using Roundup weed killer.

Yeah if dew is present it's best to wait until it burns off, but around here it's usually as dry as a popcorn fart even early in the morning lol And the wind is usually at a minimum so drift is of...

Re: Front Range Snow & extended Swarm Advisory

Here's what happens when you push all the frames in the bottom box to the front and all the frames in the top box to the back, accidentally of course (3 days later) ;) I was ready to stick the cups...

Re: Neighbor using Roundup weed killer.

If I have to spray, like I had to this year, I do it early in the morning hours before they fly. It gives the roundup time to dry and then bake into the plants later in the day. To my knowledge...

Re: Front Range Snow & extended Swarm Advisory

So we're in the dearth :D Heads up on my year so far: started with 22 colonies successful overwintered colonies, lost 2 early spring. My basic plan for the season was to keep a pallet of hives...

    Re: Price of beeswax

Like sqkcrk says, sell it for as much as you can get for it. I sold 20 lbs for $14 a pound which is $1 cheaper than Hobby Lobby . Wax isn't something I usually sell but for that price I sure...

Re: Bee Inspector coming next week

I wish we had inspectors. I think the short time they would be in the apiary would teach us noobies a lot. Now registration and paying fees I could do without :p

Re: Extractor-less honey by Flow Hive

Ace should put his money where his mouth is and show everyone he's right, if even on a small scale. Or his wife's money, or however it works in that household

    looks like Ace's previous...

Re: Harvest timing, when and why?

Right before the goldenrod starts to bloom is a good time to harvest for me :p
  11. Re: Best smoker fuel I have ever found, what do you use?

I cut up all the wood scrap in my shop into small pieces with a radial arm saw. 5 minutes later I have a 5 gallon bucket full of smoker fuel.

Scissors or a utility knife always made my foundation fit, even made deep foundation fit into medium frames :gh:

    Re: I Think I'm a Comb Farmer

I'm concentrating on getting comb drawn rather than a harvest this year. So far I've gotten almost 200 deep frames drawn, going to move on to getting mediums drawn next. One thing I've noticed,...

Re: New Package - Sugar Water NOT Punctured

Why not chalk it up to a bad deal (on who ever's part) and go on about your business and set up some swarm traps beesc? You'll have...

Re: All natural weed killer (say no to Round-Up)

I demolished the neighbor's shed for the 1x10s and 2x4s in it and use the corrugated tin roof (12'x60') on the ground to snuff out weeds. It works great but moving it can be a pain.

I've been feeding my main yard since early May to build drawn comb, they got a few days of alfalfa flow and that's it. My second yard by a creek had a pretty major flow for a week which has wound...

    Re: oxalic acid treatment

SNL meant OAV and not dribbling, dribbling will affect the larvae. If you buy a vaporizer, there's some guy named Larry who I hear sells a decent one, made in America :p :gh:

I got a dead man switch for my scroll saw too, it would definitely work with a hot knife. Best investment I've made in a minute! BTW I use a cold knife :p

    Re: oxalic acid

I should clarify that I vaporize (OAV) and have never dribbled. The FDA remark was hopefully a mistake meant to be EPA. It did make me laugh though :lpf:
