    i don't number, but write important info on the lid. if i lose a queen the lid gets put back on the stack and the nuc i use to requeen comes with its lid and its info.

    my first guess would be that you overwintered a drone laying hive. when honeybees look different in a hive its usually drones. hopefully not.

    slowly with a sawzall, the finer the blade the better, have someone hold the bucket as you cut. i've done it with a skillsaw but you have to go very slow and sand a little afterwards.

    with the occasional spring deadout there will be mold growing on the surface. it usually starts growing on the dead bees but also grows on frames of honey or pollen.

    they will build comb from the bottom of the frame and attach it to the bottom board, or fill in the empty space with several new comb running a different direction than your frames. i have done it...
