Last year I removed 2 colonies of bumbles from under different houses, they were nested up nice and snug in fiberglass insulation.
I use old cardboard egg cartons that I have left sit out in the weather for a while. let em get rained on at least once. Never had an issue and they make good longlasting smoke. if I'm out of those...
I use a Harbor Freight cheapie that I picked up 4 yrs. ago for $9.99 on sale. it uses either brads or 1/4 crown staples up to 1 1/2 in. I've used the heck out of it and never had a problem with it.
I do a fair amount of fall shrooming. Hen of the woods are tasty but I prefer oysters or wild shitakes, When I can find them elephant ears or sulphers are a prize!
Remember there are old mushroom...
My last post has got me thinking about spring and the only thing more imprtant than the bees, Morels! I usually manage to get more than I can eat every year, and I need a good way to preserve them...
I love my dehydrator! its just a cheapy electric but it works good. I learned the hard way not to dry habeneros and serano chilis in the house though, came in after they were going for a day and it...
I will turn 46 this year, just about the same time I am hoping to put the first supers on!
I wouldn't. I dont known about the artificial flavors, could be something really bad for the girls.
the fumagillin finally got here! mixed some up and got the feeders on the hives. the good news all 4 hives in that yard are alive, the bad news, well if they are alive theres no bad news, just a...
just straight beeswax chunks to my traditional bow hunting friends. The traditional guys (longbow/recurve) want the real deal.
I have also had some rendevous buckskinner guys picking uo straight wax...
never seemed to have a problem with the chickens. My black lab learned the hard way about staying away from the girls, must just be a lab thing.
since we have a streach of warm weather going I went out to check the hives and was surprised to see that all seem to be alive! However a couple of them are a real mess with nosema, looks like...

Just a thought.
and the girls are sucking down the 2:1 like no tomorrow! Each hive is taking in about a quart a day! the girls are bearding on the outside of the boxes and really giving the goldenrod, asters, and...
My wife still lovingly reminds me from time to time about the ONE time I tried to render wax in the kitchen.
It sounds really interesting. I would love to try it! I'm with the others in thinking there would be a market for it!
Try to figure out what the necter source is.
After extcacting I put my wet supers back on the hives above the inner covers, then life got in the way. I pulled them off for stoage today after being on a little over a week, maybe a week and a...
I pulled supers 3 days ago and extracted last night. pretty decent harvest. Now they get all the goldenrod and aster and spotted jewelweed they want. I'll start feeding 2:1 in a couple of weeks.
I've had hives blown over in storms a few times. Restack it as soon as you can, then wait 5-7 days to do an inspection. Should be OK.
I've been fortunate and never lost a queen in one of these...
I love to catch carp on an ultralight setup, nothing fights like one! We usually go for them in early spring before the water gets muddied up. Carp out of cold water are very good albeit a tad oily....
my last batch of bottles I got from SAILOR PLASTICS in Minn.
good product and good service! I'll order from them again
