Re: Mating nuc entrance and feeder question

I hadn't thought about any of that Beregondo. Thanks for the reply! The aluminum dividers go to the top of the box, past the top of the frames so with a migratory type cover the inside of the cover...

    Re: Building a nuc box

Looks great! The only problem that I see, is that you didn't make about 20 more of them. :)

Re: mini nuc to reg. nuc transfer?

rookie, are you planning on using deeps for honey supers as well? I'm thinking out loud so bear with me. If you're going to use mediums for honey then if I were planning to do what you are doing, I...

    Re: Queenless Package Install thoughts?

Me too, and it would sound something like this.... "I bought a package from you and the queen was dead when it arrived, I need you to overnight me one to replace her with. Thanks."

Mating nuc entrance and feeder question

I took 4 unassembled 10 frame boxes today and put 2 dividers in each one. I used 1/8" aluminum plate that I sheared to size for the dividers. That left me with 3 compartments in each hive that is...

Re: My wax dipping tank setup

Yep, that stainless is some cheap stuff. LOL I have a metal fab shop in our truck and trailer repair shop, so I am somewhat qualified to say that whoever built that tank did a fine job from what I...
  9. Re: Oxalic Acid Vaporizer with Temp Controller

Where did you get the Thermo Disk? I am a lot of things, but I am NOT an electrician. Would you mind providing a wiring diagram that I could use, please? I like the looks of your vaporizer.

Re: mini nuc to reg. nuc transfer?

That's 240 frames, not 2400. :) That's still alot of wax (sugar) but not THAT much wax.

To the OP. I made 10 hives from one double deep of bees last year, and robbing a few frames of bees from...

Re: To deep? Two deep? Or Too deep?

I hope by then I've got a strong buck grandson ready to help. My son helps me now. He's 12. He doesn't weigh much more than a deep full of honey.

Re: To deep? Two deep? Or Too deep?

My advice, order frames 100 at a time! You'll get a better price break.

If I had it to do all over again, I think I would go with all deep boxes. Those suckers are heavy when loaded with honey,...

    Re: Successful First Split

Congrats on the successful split! I like making splits and more bees best of anything as a beekeeper.

This time last year I was a nervous wreck about making my first split. I over analyze...

    Re: Devastated...

We've got two of these on our farm for some remote pasture locations. I don't know if they will keep a bear out of a bee hive, but they'll keep a bull out of the heifer pen...

    Re: When is summer dearth?

Last year was my 2nd year and I had 8 supers on 3 hives full of honey in Mid June. I got busy and didn't pull it. By late July I had only 16 frames of honey left to pull and left the bees the...

Cool. What would you charge to deliver a truckload to AL? :)
  20. Re: A couple of weak splits and here comes winter again. Will this work?

Sounds good. I hope to split the queen out of a couple of my hives in a week or so. I want to make sure my 2 or 3 best queens don't swarm. I'm chomping at the bit to get started making bees. For...
  21. Re: A couple of weak splits and here comes winter again. Will this work?

cajun, your "cold" snap is not much cooler than we've been running for the past week. I just hope the weather guessers are wrong. A hard freeze right now would surely set our bees back again.
  22. Re: A couple of weak splits and here comes winter again. Will this work?

I'm glad one of us was confident. :D
  23. Re: A couple of weak splits and here comes winter again. Will this work?

They were mated Italians. I hadn't planned on buying any this year, but one of my local beek buddies was getting some last Saturday and asked if I wanted any. Trying to get a jump start on building...

I can tell by the number of responses that you guys are riveted to this thread. :D

So here's what I did. Nothing. I took a peek in the 2 nucs this evening about 6:00. I'm guessing 1000 or so...

    Re: Scrap wood

Does the construction site do cost plus work? I just can't see that much scrap wood from building anything. That's ridiculous.

The only time I have seen that much waste was when a commercial...
