    Just to clarify, these are 2" x10" x12' boards. Just curious to others prior experiences.

    If this a true 2 x 10 it would work.If it came from a lumber supply it will lack 1/8''...

    If you are using it for covers go ahead and cut out and band the edges with a piece of solid wood. It will help keep it straight and help to to protect the plys. (be sure to use glue)

    The old motor was blue no info on the motor that i could see. Dadant's Kent said it was a motor they only used a couple years.

    I use burlap for the pad. Then used 4 mil black visqueen stretched over the rim. If you are not careful it will run the bees out in the grass.

    It gets very hot here also . I have never had any comb to collapse. I don't have but about 40 hives so it just a hobby. I don't think he will have any problem in zone 6b.

    Be careful about cutting out queen cells . If you can't find the queen they may have already swarmed if you cut out the qc you could wind up with a queenles hive . You really need to find the queen...
