    Re: Comb honey

If you use the medium size frames, you will have a little room to reposition the 4x4 inch square to get the best comb. The 4x4 squares fit perfectly in the comb boxes. Drain cut comb first on a...

I love the one you made up OT. You have an artistic eye!

The background colors are perfect to show off the yellow flower, the bee and the print! Good choice on white color for type.

    I had in...

    Re: No reaction?

Teamdasher, sorry for what you are going thru. Pain is so restrictive for living life and doing the things you love to do.

I don't know how much you know about apitherapy and so I am trying to...
  8. Re: Oh great! Landlord behind us is spraying dandelions and it is windy!

OK. A couple of things. First, I cannot edit a post once it is made although I have done so in the past.

In the first post, I meant to say "Is it legal", not "It is legal" but you all understood...
  9. Re: Oh great! Landlord behind us is spraying dandelions and it is windy!

I did not even imply anything about a property owner's rights. I only expressed concern about what impact it would have on the bees, our honey. My concern also is about the chemicals we are...
  10. Re: Oh great! Landlord behind us is spraying dandelions and it is windy!

I forgot to mention the tenants have picnic tables and grills, pool ladder, etc. etc. on the lawn as well as a kid's plastic vehicle they sit in. None of it got moved or protected while the idiot...

  12. Re: Why is a group of bees hanging out near the entrance?

We installed two packages recently and within 3 days found a very small clump on the ground near the hive. Sure enough, there was a queen with a blue dot in the middle. The only thing we don't know...
  13. Re: The billion little things that make a beekeeper's life easier

Speaking of things happening at the entrance, if you see a small glob of bees outside near the entrance or on the ground, check it for a queen from one of your hives! Especially if you did a recent...

Get them some really nice BBQ grilling utensil set. Commercial beeks like to eat, too! You could engrave that.

    Re: No reaction?

An apitherapist that we saw said not to take an NSAID except for aspirin when doing apitherapy.
She said no steroids and be careful if on medications.
She told us to drink water.
    She told us to...
  16. Re: Questions on feeding new package stores from deadout. No disease.

A very small clump of bees was noticed this afternoon near the hive. There was a queen in the middle of a handful of bees. She had a blue dot. Funny thing is I looked at our queens while they were...

  18. Re: Questions on feeding new package stores from deadout. No disease.

The "old" honey while it may not go bad is in brood frames. We gave the hives a quart of syrup in Fall also.

Thanks. I just hope we don't have a queen problem right off the bat with the one...
  19. Re: Questions on feeding new package stores from deadout. No disease.

    Vance,

Thanks for the reply. These bees were installed early Sunday and today, Tuesday afternoon, when checking the front of the hives visually, we noticed a small glob of bees just over the edge...

Poll: Re: Packaged bees left their queen

What was used to plug up the queen cages? Candy?

Did you install packages in brand new equipment that had just been painted or stained? That may make a difference.
  22. Questions on feeding new package stores from deadout. No disease.

When installing a package into a 10 frame medium box with stores from a deadout, how many frames of honey do you put in? Are they put in the 1,2 and 9, 10 frame spaces like bees traditionally do? ...
  23. Re: The billion little things that make a beekeeper's life easier

Don't feed your package too much syrup or they may swarm! When they start storing it, remove the feeder. Watch conditions and feed if they need it again.

Don't feed syrup with an entrance...

    Re: Too many stings/venom?

    Kaizen,

Yes, you could do that if you are not allergic. Try an ice cube on the sting site to numb area, then dry the skin and sting it. Ice does make a difference. Sting fleshy areas for now. ...

    Re: Too many stings/venom?

An epi pen does not prevent anaphaylactic shock. It just buys you time to get to the ER.

Anyone that has an epi pen used on them had better be going to the hospital!

    Another thing, don't let...
