    Re: Just lost two thirds.

I'm not ruling out anything. I'm not real sure how strong they were. This was the first time I opened them this year. I did observe them earlier coming and going, carrying pollen, etc. Judging from...

    Re: Just lost two thirds.

A couple of weeks ago we had a few days of cool rainy weather, lows in the low 40's. They are planting around here now and doing the initial burndown with roundup but I don't think pesticide is a...

    Just lost two thirds.

I posted a couple of months ago that all 9 of my hives made it through the winter. Now I feel really stupid because I've lost 6. Seems to be very recent. All were in double deeps, still had leftover...

    They're alive!

Finally had a nice day north of KC so I went to look at the hives. Bees coming and going from all nine. Looks like I made it through my third winter. Time to get ready to expand a little more. YES!

    Re: Merry CHRISTmas!!!

Merry Christmas To All. May we all keep in mind the reason for the season. Plop me down in any other culture with a fellow beekeeper, or goatkeeper, or gardener, or woodworker, or whatever and I bet...

    Re: Bee Keeper from Malaysia

Welcome. I read recently in Bee Culture about a stingless bee. Is that what Trigonas is? What kind of equipment do you use?
  10. Re: Hello from Kansas City (Kansas side - JOCO)

I don't really have a system as such. They are all on 10 frame. Some are on the regular foundation I started with. Some are on Mann Lake small cell. Some are foundationless. It's all been a grand...

I'm about 40 mi. up I-35 from the state line. This is my third year so I don't know much. I have 9 hives and growing slowly. I don't treat. I garden organic but there is no such thing as organic...

    Re: Moving established hive

I did make the move on Sat. There wasn't harvestable honey in the supers. It was pretty much a mess because the guy had no frames in 2 of the 3 supers. I was able to stack the top 2 hive bodies in...

    Re: Moving established hive

Many thanks to all of you for your help. Michael, I went to your website and you probably saved me from being badly stung because I was going to set them back up at night. I'm doing this tomorrow...

Go to Michael Bush website. When I can afford it I'll buy his book. Very generous of him to put the whole thing on line for free.

    Re: Windy in Mo

Finally getting a good rain this evening. First time in at least a couple of months. Whether or not it helps the fall flow I'm glad to see it. Good luck with your bees Kenww. This is my third year....

I've only been at this for 3 yrs. so I know very little more than you do. From what I understand the second super will do no harm. I've done it and the only thing that happened was they put brood in...

    Moving established hive

I need to move an established hive this weekend. 3 deeps and 3 supers. I'm thinking I'll use a fume board to clear the supers and stack them covered top and bottom so the bees can't get back in, then...

    Re: Windy in Mo

I'm north of KC. Bees are coming & going from the hives just fine. I don't think there's going to be much of a flow though. The bees never worked the goldenrod. I guess too dry and now it's looking...

    Re: best plants for bees?

I use buckwheat as a cover/green manure crop on my garden. Bees love it. Unfortunatly I never have more than a few thousand sq. feet in cultivation at one time so it's not a flow producer. I would...
