It's February 8th here in NC and my bees seem to be doing pretty good so far. Each of my hives consist of 2 deeps. I've been noticing lately that the bees all seem to be clustering on top...

    Hi All

I was curious as to whether or not anyone has used pine shavings on the top of their hives to insulate, prevent moisture, and control mites and beetles over the winter(underneath the lid)?...

    Storing Frames

    Hi All

Well I was hoping for a good Fall flow of honey but it doesn't look like that is going to happen here in NC. So, I'm in the process of collapsing my hives down to 2 deeps for the winter.

Jon B, does using the heat gun seem to work faster for you? Seems like it is a lot cleaner. Also will using the heat gun affect the honey properties.

    Thanks

    Uncapping Honey

    Hi All

I've been looking at this trend of using a heat gun to uncap honey frames. It looks like a good idea but wouldn't you end up with some wax in your honey?

    What are your thoughts?
