  1. Re: Who made this 5 gallon bucket strainer holder?

Understood. I muscle a full bottling bucket onto a table, open the gate and then let it flow through the raised sieve/final bottling bucket combo below. However, I am only moving about 1000 pounds...
  2. Re: Who made this 5 gallon bucket strainer holder?

OD, I solved the problem of the plastic strainers sitting into the bucket. I cut the top off a bucket and sit that on top of the bucket I am filling. The sieve sits on that and keeps the bottom of...

  6. Re: A spray bar device to fill frames that I came across on youtube

Greg, there was a fascinating thread some years ago where Ron Householder described how he is able to start early packages by putting them on spray-filled brood combs. Bees don't take syrup well...

    Re: Winter's Here to Stay

Mike, do you still plan to use a divided deep on the bottom, and 2 nuc supers above, or are you going in the direction of paired separate boxes pushed together with a common bottom board and outer...
  8. Re: Marin Bee Survey: Hobby keepers - a net population sink

The swarm losses/splits are interesting. I have followed Odfranks swarm capture stories for years with interest, and he is honest enough to point out that they have a large die off rate. This data...

    Re: Sideliner Profitability Study

Do you already have all the equipment and storage space you need for operating on a larger scale? I'm thinking of Bobcat, pallets, automated uncapper, storage vessels etc.
  12. Re: Package bees in Wisconsin, Minnesota, or Iowa

Ah, thanks for explaining. That news didn't make it to me.
  13. Re: Package bees in Wisconsin, Minnesota, or Iowa

    How so?
  14. Re: making nuc with shaken bees from several hives and a queen ?

I believe one of the most underrated mite control tools is the brood break. Setting your nuc up this way with a mated queen ensures there is a brood break.

If you are unable to move the nuc to...

    Re: Drone culling - Varroa

If your bees build up in order to swarm on or before the main flow it is better to cull drones earlier rather than later. If you wait until later the damage will have occurred already.

It is a viable alternative to packages in our region. A combination of the methods of Mel Disselkoen and Mike Palmer is working for me. I use a brood break to knock the mites back when the nuc is...

    Re: Carnolian Bee Reviews

Pay close attention to the frames of sealed brood. Visualize how much space the emerging brood will occupy and make sure there is enough room the bees before they become overly congested.
  21. Re: Does this mean Topbar are Hives Illegal in Australia

In many US states it is the same. TBH beekeepers do not find it to be a problem. As long as the bars are removable it is OK.
