  1. Re: Made a linseed oil wax/paste for inside the hive

How does the OSB hold up? I get irritated every time I look at the dimensional lumber quality and price.
  2. Re: Swarm Trap... in the back of TRUCK BED?

Then you have an excuse for being late. "Honest, I was stuck in a traffic jam..." :) If you started to drive off would the swarm follow??? That would be a sight!

    Re: foundationless frames

Is there a good way to encourage them to draw all the way to the bottom of a frame? They nicely leave a bee space around the bottom and sides. What would they do with a narrow frame bottom, like a...

    Re: fishers bee quick

It works well to move them out of areas toward the new hive box. It is much longer lasting than smoke and more directional. In any case, it is not a long term repellant.

    That's a good benchmark!
  9. Re: New bee keeper tragedy but may have silver lining.

If all the capped honey was removed, it wouldn't take them more than a day to clean up what remained. Then the robbers would be gone. Even with the goofy weather a swarm is quite possible. If a...

    Re: NewBee from Texas

Howdy, welcome to the club. Don't be too proud to put on a suit or gloves. They get hot at times depending on flow, weather, smell, and many other variables. Mine seem to ignore the smoke or get...

    Re: Who's got drones

Plenty in Houston also, with more emerging. I caught a swarm on 3-4 that had drones with it.

    Re: 3D printed beekeeping tools

Most aren't really practical even with a donated printer sitting next to me. ;) Each print isn't perfect and it isn't really smooth like injection molding. Maybe i need a better $$ machine. Now,...

Re: Swarm prevention of long lang hive

I don't have a queen excluder, but have some old comb I want to cycle out of the nest. The queen keeps laying in it. Can you use a couple of honey frames as a "queen excluder" and move some capped...

Sticky: Re: Please Post your Swarm Dates?

Houston, TX 77025. About 9 feet up in a shruberry. Call at 1:30; home in a hive by 3:00. They will be warm tonight with our "cold front" coming thru.

  21. Re: Horizontal Comb - how would bees use it?

On my first cutout I left a piece of comb on the bottom for the bees to clean up. The SHB got there first and the bees couldn't get to the bottom side. That was a very nasty smell and the bees...

    Re: Anyone have musical SHB?

If you hear banjo music, you've probably had too much "sugar water" from Rader's neck of the woods. :)
  23. Re: Long Hive with Lang frames-multi use. Production or queen rearing

I see you repeated the grooved sides from your old design. Is it worth the effort for the bees to hang on or is there another objective?
  24. Re: Long Hive with Lang frames-multi use. Production or queen rearing

Very nice. I wish I made mine out of 2x. 1x lumber warps too much over the 4 ft length.

Re: Oh the joys no one mentions

I've been planning a split and decided to let them build a couple more weeks. We have quite a buffer in the city, but it still is "winter".
