  1. Re: Management changes for flow hive

Going from the way the advertisement demonstrates the product, I'd hazard management goes something like this: Establish a new colony in the usual way (or use an established colony); add Flow at the...
  2. Re: Extractor-less honey by- "Honey Flow"

No. Those are things that people who are very excited about new ideas that are met with skepticism like to claim were said about heavier than air flight, or automobiles, televisions and other...
  3. Re: Extractor-less honey by- "Honey Flow"

Are you sure? I had gotten the impression from the website that certain amounts of money were getting you some actual products, not just discounts on future product purchases. I could be 100% wrong...
  4. Re: Extractor-less honey by- "Honey Flow"

I'll say. That's 22,000 frames to ship, and counting.
  5. Re: Extractor-less honey by- "Honey Flow"

I'm not sure why you'd want to bother using only 4 or 5 in a deep; since you don't need to handle them very much, you wouldn't really save any kind of labor by shorting the super and having to fill...
  6. Re: Extractor-less honey by- "Honey Flow"

It is definitely an interesting invention. I'm very happy that these folks' 10 years of work on a piece of beekeeping equipment has made them over a half a million dollars in a matter of an hour or...
  7. Re: Extractor-less honey by- "Honey Flow"

I don't think so, but there are few things I would be as happy to be wrong about.
  8. Re: Extractor-less honey by- "Honey Flow"

Hmm. I've heard of a "Michael Bush"; I believe he posts on that internet forum I read a lot. Never actually met him...

The mechanics of the device as described sound pretty credible. But I'm...
  9. Re: Extractor-less honey by- "Honey Flow"

    :D :D :D

JDMoodie is right; I wouldn't expect too many bees inside of capped honey. Most if not all of the Organic™ bee parts that have ended up in my honey after extraction are from the few bees...

    Re: Growl???

In fairness, the video looks to have been taken with a cell phone camera or something; it's possible the video's growl sounds different because the microphone couldn't pick up all of the sound - much...

    Re: Growl???

At the thread to which angel links, there's a video of the bees apparently "growling". It certainly sounds like an animal noise and not some kind of wind effect - to me at least.

    Re: Growl???

If you've taken apart the hive and confirmed there's nothing in there, and it continues to growl, I'm really at a loss for what to recommend. A clergymember from your favorite religion, perhaps.
  13. Re: Zombee research project at San Francisco State University

How did you think this up? It's the craziest idea for a research project I've ever heard; I wish I had thought of it.

  14. Re: papers provide conclusive evidence that the pesticides are causing the mass death

Natural selection isn't a discrete process that can be "undermined". Evolution is a completely random process; predators do not intentionally evolve specifically to take advantage of any condition,...
  15. Re: papers provide conclusive evidence that the pesticides are causing the mass death

Bees that might need treatment to overcome particularly bad infections or infestations aren't "sickly"; bees have more genes than the ones which leave them susceptible to certain stressors, and those...
  16. Re: papers provide conclusive evidence that the pesticides are causing the mass death

Currently it's the latter; however, it can become the former, if the processes and techniques which led to food being so plentiful and available are rolled back or restricted too much.

  17. Re: papers provide conclusive evidence that the pesticides are causing the mass death

    ...I'm sorry, what food shortage?

I haven't heard a news story claiming any kind of food shortage in...I can't remember. Years and years on top of years and years. There are some years in which...

BREAKING: Chem-using Beekeeper's Bees Explode; Pesticide Blamed
  19. Re: papers provide conclusive evidence that the pesticides are causing the mass death

Everything is a chemical, or a combination of chemicals. Every single thing. Pure water is a chemical.

And even the most synthesized, processed, artificial substance in the world is at its base...
  20. Re: Why are beekeepers not all using vaporized oxalic acid to treat varroa mites?

Dusting with sugar is a mechanical treatment, not a chemical one. The sugar doesn't actually do anything to the mites.

Still waiting to hear what's so special about oxalic acid that I should be...
  21. Re: NEW YORK- new legislation, anyone know about this??

Concur with both of these. I'll add another, my old club Lorain County, who also have a great website.
  22. Re: NEW YORK- new legislation, anyone know about this??

Going by what was posted about the act, it required beekeepers of hives known to be infested to send documented samples to the state for testing. Is there more to it? Because I need someone to...
  23. Re: NEW YORK- new legislation, anyone know about this??

Question - if this legislation isn't the right way to do it, which most here seem to agree, how should it be rewritten? It seems to me there ought to be some kind of system in place for reporting an...
  24. Re: Interesting DC editorial countering the pesticide CCD hysteria the media loves

But the article doesn't stop at "it wasn't caused by neonics", the article says nothing unusual happened at all, which is false.
  25. Re: Interesting DC editorial countering the pesticide CCD hysteria the media loves

No, of course CCD actually happened. I am unhappy with the way it has been hijacked by special interest groups which strike me as largely anti-science (I actually read one telling me the other day...
