    Re: Greeting from Oregon

Welcome, you don't have to start with 2 hives, but you will want to make sure you have some equipment to expand, by splits, or swarms.

My understanding was in cold weather areas, run them opposite of the frames to reduce air flow some. I have made some both ways, running them with the frames may let more debrie fall out if they are...

Re: Lets talk about Long Lang Hives

I built a few years back, they did fine and wintered well. I made them the 3 supers long and made 3 inner covers the same size. then I could put supers straight up from any of the 3 positions. so...
  15. Re: What are your thoughts on using medium supers exclusively?

I plan on just sticking in 1 inch closed cell foam on each side of my deeps when I cant lift them anymore, that will make them 8 frame deeps with the same lids and inner covers. I almost went with...

    Re: Increasing small cell hives

I have read that a large cell bee , raised in a 5.4 cell, if given the chance to draw out new comb will make about 5.1 sized cell. then those smaller bees would make about 4.9 sized cells if given...
