Re: Thomasville, Alabama bee removal needed

No, never had an update. Caller seemed determined to find someone, pulled me off the net, from where I did not ask. On a roof at the time.

Re: Sugar syrup - 4:1 ratio?

Getting near 50 years since I did a mole problem so I am rustier than the Tinman the day he met Dorothy.
On a 2 to 1 ratio with less than 100% conversion (assuming), yields a new weight of honey...

Re: Sugar syrup - 4:1 ratio?

The first step in making honey is moving the nectar. Bees and plants have worked out a system that works and that is a pretty thin mix. A sugar paste becomes a sugar brick pretty fast. Bees take a...

Andrew, sent them to the local mainebeekeepers list first, just trying to expand that list to fill in the gap.

    Re: Custom Pollen Sub?

Thoughtful and civil discussion. Well done.

    Observation without a clue to what it means if anything;
Different pollens are often being brought in at the same time. Those seem to be sorted by type...

Re: Opinions Needed (Bee Kill vs Trap-Out)

A beesource discussion does not prevent or replace a club decision. There is always a back story and more then one version to every story.
However, if one believes wild bees are best terminated,...

A hive 8 feet in the air that is keeping out yellow jackets. What would I do about the bees? Enjoy the view.

Re: Opinions Needed (Bee Kill vs Trap-Out)

You have a parasite in your club. (If true) You could check back with some of your prior calls who did not follow through with removals, this may have been going on for a while.
    He is not only...

Re: Our understanding of genetics is changing

But those influences are relatively stable within an individual's program. In order for a species to thrive within a fluctuating environment, those influences also must be somewhat self regulating.

  11. Re: Reoccurring robbing! How can I prevent it.

At this point this thread might be too late: http://www.beesource.com/forums/showthread.php?302347-Sugar-lump-robbing-stopper

Wolfer's 200 feet probably is best after the robbing is ongoing.

Re: Bees under screened Bottom board - swarm?

I'd try lifting the BB and existing hive up on top of an a new hive body with frames. Use the bottom as a top of the lower and the bottom of the upper. If they are going to hang out there they might...

    Knotweed for winter prep?

I need to fatten up a couple of nucs for winter. I can place them near knotweed on a small piece of land, How is the pollen and nectar for a winter source? The stuff is covered in bees (not mine) but...

estraya, Logic hints at nectar if only because fewer bees handle the pollen and you would be seeing brood death unless it was a short lived pesticide.

Re: How do you follow a "bee line" ?

Mostly I was joking, but getting them on syrup can be surprisingly hard. That may be just an indication the hive is not that close. Had robbers (or scouts) on empties, took them 2 weeks to start...

Re: How do you follow a "bee line" ?

You could always put out a weak nuc and feed it. Somehow I think there would be a steady stream of robbers.

Re: Laying worker or Drone laying queen?

Not much value in the old LW hive beyond the comb. Scratch the drone comb caps and combine. Worry about the single good hive now.

Re: Something went very wrong, very fast ...

Long term low level exposure is more likely to contaminate wax than a bee kill level. Your bees are not making wax today. Nectar and to a lesser extent pollen are the likely carriers. In a dearth...
