Re: 5-frame standard corrugated NUC BOXES

How well do they distribute weight? Meaning, if i put say 8 to a freight pallet and then stacked them 6 pallets high on a semi, would the bottom ones get crushed or will the boxes support the weight?

Re: GPS locator with anti theft alarm

$20 bucks a month is pretty cheap if you put one every 50 hives or so. When you have a few hundred colonies stolen it will look very cheap.

I don't use this brand, but we are experimenting with a...

  7. Re: What is the latest on the demand for bees in the almonds this year?

I just received another call looking to buy multiple loads before almonds, and my Almond grower called trying to increase his order again.

Looking like it's gonna be a tight year out there.

  8. Re: Paramount Farms buys out Headwater Honey (David Mendes)

I heard Wonderful's Florida operation was not able to keep anywhere near the amount of bees they wanted for upcoming pollination.

I can't prove any of it, just hearsay.

I heard Dave bought the boat, but Eli was the one catching all the fish.
  11. Re: What is the latest on the demand for bees in the almonds this year?

The Almond growers i work with are calling, asking for us to deliver more loads than normal. Whether another beekeeper backed out or increased acreage is the culprit i don't know.

    Re: Alternative nuc boxes

We have used them in Florida for over 6 months out side use in Florida, they were definitely weather beaten and chewed up a bit on the inside, still viable though.

But if you are just raising nucs...

    Re: Never requeen

As a commercial beekeeper running nearly 10,000 colonies, I wouldn't say we re-queen in the essence you are thinking, but we routinely split all of our hives on a timeline so that all the colonies...

Not enough to notice, Besides we saturate the area with our colonies.
We make over 20,000 splits a year in the area. With Hundreds of swarms slipping through our grasp yearly.

    Re: 2016 April/May Spring Nucs FL/PA

Yes, all brood would be from the newest queen.
We plant the queen cell and wait at least 4 weeks before checking nucs for queen viability, and generally around 6 weeks is where we would sell them. ...
