    Re: Ultra Breeze hood alternative?

Yet another very valid reason to use a ventilated bee suit.
I don't think the bees died. I'd say they were just stunned temporarily :)

Re: Small steam cleaning unit-hand held?

Is this a pressure washer only or a steam pressure washer?
I have a commercial pressure washer so I may look into adding a steam unit. My thought was high pressure steam would be extremely...

    Small steam cleaning unit-hand held?

I am so sick of cleaning buckets for my honey. It seems no matter what I do some specs of debris gets into the buckets just before I fill them. I don't extract tons of honey and I use 4 gallon square...

    Re: Ultra Breeze hood alternative?

Yes I have the full suit going on the second season. I hate wearing suits period and I got this to keep the ticks off.
It is a great suit and I am glad to say that because I really thought it was...

    Ultra Breeze hood alternative?

I have an ultra Breeze suit and I really don't like the hood. I looked on the Web site and didn't see any choices.
Is there another hood that will work?
  6. Re: Typical compensation for extracting someone elses honey?

Thanks for all this input. I have a much better idea now about a fair price.

I've been doing some management on this guys hives and he will have big problems in the future I feel. He doesn't spend...

Re: Extractor-less honey by Flow Hive

What is wrong with all you insensitive people?
These are NOT drones. They are "boys".
    Get with the program folks.
    Just a little funnin around.:D
  8. Typical compensation for extracting someone elses honey?

I've been asked to spin out the honey another beek has. He has not got the time to do it so he says. It isn't a hardship case or anything like that and he knows I'll be getting something out of it....

Re: Extractor-less honey by Flow Hive

Well there you have it. Nothing else needs saying. IMO "my girls" speaks to the market that flow is targeting.
I know that calling bees, "girls" is a somewhat common thing but it drives me crazy....

Well just call me chop liver:D

Re: CO2 and putting bees to sleep (ahb)

Look into putting a tablespoon of 34% nitrogen fertilizer in your smoker to make nitrous oxide aka laughing gas.
I have not tried this but I've been told it works and doesn't kill the bees.

Re: Extractor-less honey by Flow Hive

Huntsman - do yourself a favor and quit now before you get severely disappointed. I'm not criticising here mind you but to, "harvesting honey without requiring years of experience (I'm already 54)...

Re: Strange swarm on the ground?

I killed the cells because I have laying queens in mating nucs and need to make splits. I'll use this colony for one of the mated queens if the existing queen turns out to be non productive.
    We're...

Re: Strange swarm on the ground?

That's what I did. I placed a nuc with a frame of brood and three drawn frames and they marched in. I moved them for three days and brought them back today. There is a big fat queen that landed next...

Re: Extractor-less honey by- "Honey Flow" - Flow Hive

Are you really putting the flow hive on the same level as an extractor from an innovation standpoint?
Crush and strain is a valid harvest option for very small operations like 1-2 hives IMO. Have...

    Strange swarm on the ground?

Two days ago I looked out back and saw that I was loosing a swarm. I just rolled my eyes and figured they were gone. I then noticed they were concentrated about 50' from my hives and we're not taking...
  21. Re: Feeding and crowding to help draw foundation?

  22. Re: Feeding and crowding to help draw foundation?

Excellent! This is EXACTLY the type of advice I was looking for. Not that others have not given good advice as well but my challenged brain needs these type of "instructions". I have several hives...
  23. Re: Feeding and crowding to help draw foundation?

I actually need to make up about 5-6 of nucs using queens that I just checked and are laying well. I also have about 40 cells which will, I hope, provide mated queens for additional nucs but they...
  24. Re: Feeding and crowding to help draw foundation?

Straight syrup meaning saturated sucrose solution. Similar water content as ripe honey. Close to 2:1 sugar to water.
I feel the bees will consume and deposit the straight syrup as well or better...

Re: My wax dipping tank setup

    Wow! Wow! Wow!
And I have people tell me that I get into things full bore or not at all:D
I'm not being critical mind you-the tank is #1 IMO as is the rest of the setup.
Can I ask what that amount...
