    Re: Splitting Questions

If you are splitting into eight frames and only pulling 4 frames & have no drawn frames, that gives you plenty of time to not worry about it exploding. Just stay out of the split hive for at least...

    Re: Splitting Questions

It might matter, because if you put her in the nuc with drawn frames and bees, it will explode quickly and might begin swarm preparations. Other than that, I dont think it matters.
  4. Re: new to Bee Source 1st year at it have three hives

  5. Re: Jar feeder hole in inner cover for ventilation?

    Re: does pollen = nectar?

Not necessarily, as pointed out. One of my favorite ways to tell a nectar flow is to stand next to the hive and smell. One also might see a lot of "fanners" on the porch circulating the air/smell to...

    Re: Selling Beeswax

I was referring to varroa mite treatments/chemical residue. Variations of color happens depending on the color of the wax melted. For instance, brood comb wax is a lot darker then freshly drawn...

Does your wax come from treated hives?
Can I buy a larger block than 1lb?

  11. Re: Bees left hive, grouped on ground

I have experienced this with a swarm (one in the tree branch, and one on the ground 5 feet away), and agree with becky that what you have is a swarm on the ground. Was your queen's wings clipped? If...

    Re: cutout questions

Temperaments change all the time; even honey bees, maybe two pairs of jeans :D. I am not a big fan of smoking cutouts because it makes the queen run and hide, which other bees follow. It also makes...

    Re: Robbing

What is causing the robbing? Whatever you do, I would not close them up for a couple of days. Consider reducing the entrance?

    Re: Still need Pollen Patties?

What type of feeder is it? With no inner cover will you be able to get the lid off, if they build under it?

    Re: Still need Pollen Patties?

My thoughts is Spring has Sprung and there is a lot of natural pollen for the taking, I would not put more in. However, do be ready to scrap off more burr comb:D Why not just leave it?

  20. Re: How to get a hive out of a wall without dismantling it

Depending on the size of the hive, you and the home owner will have to have your patience pants/dress on for this. Never? :D and the rodents & wax moths? What if it gets hot enough (ex. Hive...

Beetle, if you want to get into it, hang out/help someone who knows how to do cutouts while they work. Quickest way to learn, & it's hands on.

    Re: Advice desperately needed

  23. Re: Laws restricting killing/exterminating bees

Here in CO, "most" exterminators SAY it is illegal (whether or not I do not know), but I have personally been on several "save the bees if you can missions", that an exterminator company has left....

    Re: Hated to do it....

All good points, but I couldn't have done it, and as a home owner it is the last thing I would do. Way to much risk of future problems, but seemed so cheap and easy last year:D To me it is only a...
