Poll: Re: Do you Build or Buy your Hive Bodies?

I pay $.80 a board foot for white pine rough cut here...If my math is correct that is $5.60 a box. Pretty hard to justify buying pre-cut boxes, and like many others have said, building your own is...

Who is to say this is "apple blossom honey" when clover, and other wildflowers are in bloom, or this is "goldenrod honey" when asters and Knotweed are in bloom. Color tells a lot but do you really...

    Re: Bee Vacuum Please

I would add more holes...reducing pressure....you want to barely pull the bees off the comb. I use a similar set-up with a hose that has ridges. I have very few dead bees when I vacuum. In fact if or...
  12. Re: What size hardware cloth to keep mice out?

Interesting....1/2 seems plenty small....guess the 40 mouse guards I just made would be better used as kindling! Most are on hives already...will let you know how it worked out in the spring. Better...
  13. Re: What size hardware cloth to keep mice out?

  15. Re: Losing queens like crazy! A puzzler...

My mentor and I have had a huge number of swarm calls the last 2 weeks. 2 of my hives have recently swarmed. These bees are going nuts on the golden rod flow! With out looking at your bees...My guess...
  16. Re: Phrases I just wouldn't have expected to say till I started beekeeping

Better not brushog the goldenrod in that pasture!
  17. Re: Local absence and local extinction, a confounding factor in TF prescriptions

In 20 years...maybe more...we will all have our answer! If you treat and keep your hives alive....your beekeeping....if you dont treat and keep your hives alive...guess what? Your a beekeeper! Argue...

    Re: bee vac disaster

Yep!!! Bees were vomiting honey. Tried to vac a swarm last year off of a railing. Giant sticky mess! Lesson learned....no more vacumming swarms. The bees you vacuumed must have been full of honey.
