has anyone else around taken off any honey that has a "hot" after-taste too it? similar to eating a hand full of red-hots?
i know of a couple of other guys in my area who have got some.
any...
golden rod is not quite ready to bloom around here yet, but it is getting close.
i harvested some. if you like the smell of dirty laundry, you'll love it. tasted good, just couldn't get past the smell.
if you have a queen excluder on, take it off. learned that the hard way this year. bee won't draw above a queen excluder.
your not the only one who has them!!! seem to be just annoying!
i have done the same thing this year already, just pay attention to where the queen is! other than that, it has worked well.
depends on what you want to get out of your hives. you will get a million different opinions, you just have to pick a path and go for it.
you could add a super and try to get some surplus, which...
how common is it to have newly installed packages throw queen cells?
the packages were installed this spring. i checked some yesterday and found another one with no eggs and queen cells onthe...
i kept mine open all year, except for about a month in late january/early february. didn't have any trouble. the hives that over-winter were out of the direct winter wind though.
i am looking to buy an un-capping knife.
what is a good one to buy? is there a peticular brand? or a place to get one?
thanks for the help.
suprisingly the wax was still soft and pliable. i think it was stored in a basement for quite some time by the looks of the card board packaging.
yes, they have a drawn super already. this is the top, deep brood chamber. i did think about staggering the drawn and undrawn through out the hive. just wanted to see if there was something bad...
over the last winter, i bought some older, i'm guessing 80's vintage equipment. supers, frames, foundation, that sort of stuff.
most everything was still in the packageing that it came in from...
i have noticed from time to time some odd cells on the frames. i had a guy tell me they were just "cup" cells and that bees just make them for some reason.
what are they? why do they make them? ...
getting the same down here in mt. vernon. orange-yellow and really dark red.
i have made it thru my first winter.....now my concern is swarming. when do i need to start worring about swarm cells popping up?
we had some warmer weather a week or so ago and i was able to...
like everyone else says, i would pass as well. i really do not have enough money to purchase to supplies to install hives on everyones place who has been interested. word of mouth is great!! ask...
well, i do not know a good way to preserve them, but if you need a good "disposal service" to get rid too many morels, please send them to mt. vernon ohio!!
bought some SBB from him. great service!! will be back!
got any queens for sale??!!
one thing i did forget to mention, but mr. bush kind of reminded me...i pulled the tray out of my SBB and it was clean, no poop that i could noticed.
and yes, i do have plenty of ventilation.

being this is my first winter with bees, i have a question.
i noticed yesterday that some of my bees were out flying a little. i am guessing that the majority of what i was seeing was from their...
i have been reading about treating for varro mites and they talked about using grease patties as a treatment/IPM for varro.
i was wondering if it is ok to put grease patties in my hives right now, in january? we have had some teens and 20's for highs and around 0 at night. may warm up toward end of upcoming week,...
