    Bees around top of hive

Are the bees flying around the tops of hives robbers? When I take the top off there are bunches of bees on the screened inner cover.

I have one hive where the hive-top feeder gets full of dead...
  2. Re: Bushy Mountain Compact Extractor VS Mann Lake Stainless 6/3 Frame Hand Crank Extr

I bought the "little Tiger" from Pigeon Mountain. I was $129 with the honey gate installed. Did a great job for 4 hives. My buddy extracted them as fast as I could uncap them.

    Re: Share your Beekeeping Inventions!

Sorry, I haven't figured out how to get pictures from my telephone to my computer.

I took a pair of my worn out blue jeans and cut along the seams, leaving the waist band and the rear pockets to...

    Re: wood frames

I make all of my woodenware except the frames. Frames are just too cheap and too complicated. I buy the pre-assembled wooden frames with wax coated plastic foundation from Mann Lake. I used to buy...

    Re: Found bees

Old folklore says if bees nest in the ground we are going to have a very cold winter.

Re: Bees refuse to move over in hive

It is more natural for them to go up as winter approaches. Put them back in a Nuc and put a nuc super on top. Bees like to make their winter home narrow and tall as the height is more heat...
  7. Re: Best way to combine a wea hive and a newly caught swarm?

I would keep the hives separate for a week or two and see which queen lays the best pattern. If your weather permits, you may even want to wait and see the temperament of the bees.

Re: Is it necessary to get stung?

Yesterday morning I was thinking..."wow, I haven't been stung in about a week." Yesterday afternoon a bee decided to break my winning streak.

    Re: AHHHHH RATS!!!!

Hindsight is always 20-20. I have learned to keep a swarm lure about 200 feet from my hives just in case. That way I won't kill the bees with a vacuum cleaner. duhhh

    Re: Wax Moths

A friend told me that the OAV vaporizer would also kill wax moths. Maybe we need confirmation from SNL
  12. Re: Oxalic Acid Vaporizer Results - Users post here!

Going to get a battery for my new vaporizer in the AM. Will a lawnmower battery work?

Re: will moth balls hurt bees?

Mites are almost impossible to see on a live bee, even with a magnifying glass. Try a sticky board. It will not cost you bees.

    Re: Salt Blocks for Bee's?

I have been putting vinegar in my sugar water to give it some acid. Would the salt neutralize the vinegar?

    Using the Varrocleaner

I received my Varrocleaner in the mail Saturday. The box was open but the apparatus looks to be in perfect condition. I do have some questions.

    Re: Mating yard questions.

Just read the article last night. Larry said that queens fly an average of 1.9 miles. Drones go to the closest DCA. The queen tries to go further than her brother drones.
  20. Re: When to use oxalic acid vaporisor in south Texas?

There are certain times to treat. If you are a treat no matter what person. SNL's advice is perfect. The oxalic acid supposedly does not affect the honey, but I would not treat with honey supers...

    Re: Tax Numbers and accouting

I'm sure every state is different. I bought a hive and a nuc this spring and the seller collected sales tax on the woodenware portion but not the bees.
