    Re: Goldenrod flow question

Yeah, Goldenrod is long gone here in N.Y. Since the frames will often remain uncapped for a long time, I usually look at the wetness of the frames to judge whether a flow is on. Perhaps this is only...

  12. Anyone used the Dadant uncapping tank as a liquifier?

I know Dadant sells the grid and heater unit for their 36" uncapping tank for liquifying 60# buckets. I was just wondering if anyone has tried this out? I don't know if it is worth buying the grid,...
  13. Re: Cappings melter out of an insulated box and a couple of lights???

I was thinking of perhaps adding a couple of large computer style box fans to circulate the air so you don't get a single hot spot and have the lights regulated (on/off) by a simple thermal switch.
  14. Cappings melter out of an insulated box and a couple of lights???

I see a lot of capping melting systems utilizing heater elements and hot water but wax melts at only about 150-160 degrees. Why not build an insulated box with a couple of heat lamps in the lid? I...

Re: meliponine bees or stingless bees

The nest architecture is really not very conducive to honey production. It is sort of like trying to obtain honey from bumblebees. Not only that, but even though they don't sting, they do...
  16. Re: Getting real tired of melting down capping on the stove..other options??

Well I've got a 55 gallon garbage can full of cappings at the moment. That is just from my current ~35 production colonies. I expect to be pushing upwards of 100 to 150 colonies next year.
  17. Re: Getting real tired of melting down capping on the stove..other options??

yeah, well the large pots on the stove is what I am doing now. I would like some other design idea (besides a solar melter), or some commercial option....
  18. Getting real tired of melting down capping on the stove..other options??

I'm a bit spoiled as I used to work with a large double walled melting tank that was custom built for capping. It was filled with water and had a heating element that would heat up the tank and melt...

Re: Cappings Basket for a Radial Extractor

Sometimes things are way too much of a hassle. I bought a Maxant Jr. Capping spinner...it works GREAT!!! ALMOST as nice as a Cowen cappings spinner, just on a MUCH smaller scale.
  22. Re: Queen Rearing and Bee Breeding by Harry Laidlaw & Robert Page Jr - Books for sale

Re: I've got 1600 lbs of honey, now what?

At $3.00/lb I might consider it. I haven't inquired, but I am assuming I am only looking at $2/lb if I sell it all wholesale. Even so, the few bottles I have sold have been at $7/lb, which is a lot...
