    Re: Central Indiana GoldenrodBlooming

Most feed 1:1 sugar when their bees are hungry. There are other options out there. Just check some of the bee supply places to purchase food patties.
  4. Re: This post went through beekeeping 101 & unfortunately only got 1 reply

I have bee reading about hives that have three deeps for the Northern climates. This may be the best way for you to go at this point.
  5. Re: bringing bee population up quickly for a new queen

2nd year beek here. Earlier this year I had a hive that just needed more bees in its population. The queen was laying fine but there weren't enough bees in the hive (my opinion not the bees) So...
  6. Re: Honey comb suspended from bottom of hive with pic...

I'm a 2nd yr beek so I'm no expert but the first thing I'd want to do is get my queen safe. I'd capture my queen and put her in a safe place. Then I'd take the combs off rubber band or tie them...
  7. Re: Inspection found a single wasp/hornet in a cell.

I have seem some wasps in the area apparently mostly interested in the garden. Do I freak out and set traps or do I live n let live?

    Re: Wisconsin winter

I'm not sure but I read where someone else does this regularly and wanted to try it. I am also running 8 frame instead of 10 frame this year. The weight was a bit much for me with the 10's.

    Re: Wisconsin winter

    Hi DAVE
I'm from Oshkosh, Wisconsin. I don't know what the norm is but last year I ran 2 deeps on both my hives. They survived just fine. However this year I have four hives and am going to try...

    Re: Combine or not

I'm a new beek but Since they have good queens I'd let them try to build up for a while. You can always combine them later if their still is a need. But if one of the experts disagrees I'd go with...
  12. Re: Is a nearby Hornet nest something to worry about?

I lost a hive to yellow jackets last fall so I'd get rid of the wasps too. I found a dead wasp in one of my hives today. It must have tried to get some honey but failed:)

    Re: 8 frame medium question

I have read where some file the frames down so they fit better then use nine frames instead of 8.
So I just started doing this so when I replace equipment I'll be able to do 9 frames.

Re: My Small Swarm Has a Queen!

I had a small hive with a good queen earlier this year too. I did a newspaper combine and added a few shakes of bees from one of my larger hives. Now it has enough bees to make it and is growing...

    Re: aggressive bees

I had an aggressive hive like that and was told to kill the old queen and re-queen with a new one.

    Re: Intorducing new queen

  25. Re: Is it possible for honeybees to live entirely indoors?, what are their needs if s

Is this enclosure going to be entirely cut off from out side air? Couldn't you have a couple of vents where bees could go outside to gather and forage then come back in the evenings like they would...
