  1. Re: A cold night tonight--should I install?

Thank you all. I installed them this morning when it was 41 degrees but bright sun--it went fine. We have cold nights and partly cloudy days with chance of showers coming up so I hope they'll stay.
  2. Re: A cold night tonight--should I install?

It's a top bar hive. I have a few bars of drawn comb but no honey. Looks like it will be in the low 40's by 7am tomorrow, then climbing into the 60's, so I think I'll do it then. I'll feed them warm...
  3. A cold night tonight--should I install?

I just received my package bees (Italians). My TBH is ready to go (3rd year). Only thing is, temperatures are predicted to go down into the mid thirties, and there are frost warnings here. Should I...

Re: 2nd year TBH with a couple questions

Thanks to both Riodelobo and robherc for your advice! Conditions here in MA have been a far cry from what I imagine is going on in TX, as we haven't been able to consistently get up out of the 40's...

2nd year TBH with a couple questions

Hi. I have a TBH from Matt Reed of Beethinking, installed my first package last May. I made some mistakes, but I guess I did enough things right. They swarmed in late July, the bees requeened...

How many bars needed after swarm?

I'll try not to make a short story long. This is my first year, I have one TBH with package installed May 10. Beautiful straight comb with capped brood and larvae, but only out to bar 8; then #9...
  7. Re: Top bar beekeepers coming to Northeast Treatment-Free Beekeeping Conference

First time beekeeper with a TBH, I am interested in the beginner intensive. My 12-yr old son is learning with me. If he were to come too, would I have to pay full registration for him? He doesn't...

    Re: Help--are my bees doomed?

I think we're good! Looks like the queen was released, and bees are building comb on the first two bars, and taking the sugar syrup. We've had two gorgeous days in the 70s. They've cleaned house a...

    Re: Help--are my bees doomed?

...and I didn't put the queen cage directly on the floor, but leaned it up against the side, on an angle, with plenty of access to the candy end. Hoping for the best!

    Re: Help--are my bees doomed?

Thank you. I've read so many conflicting things about hanging the queen cage. Maybe I made the wrong call on that one.

    Help--are my bees doomed?

First time beekeeping, installed my Italian package into my TBH yesterday evening. 1:1 syrup is in a boardman type feeder, but placed on the TBH floor. I didn't hang the queen cage, but uncorked the...
