    How are the bees acting when you first open the hive? How are they acting after splitting the boxes apart and going through them? Have you looked to see if there is an unmated virgin in the hive?

    I tried it out this year. It works great. If you see the bees pilling out the entrance you need to get the fume board off and let the hive air out a little before you put the lid back on.

    Use a fume board on top. When the top box is empty pull it. Go back in a couple of days when things have calmed down check the hive for stores and pollen add whats needed or pull out whats not.
