There's a place in RI that has medium nucs who I bought a few packages from last year. Beehavin.com is his website. Email him and ask about availability.
Hive tool trick is what I do too. I use them when I first start a package. When I go into the hive to remove the queen cage I stop using the division board feeder and start using a hivetop feeder.
Thanks George. The hives are on stone dust which is pretty dry but the lawn right in front of them is getting pretty deep and no doubt holding alot of moisture. I almost reduced the entrance a bit...
Adding to Ann's post: Because we live on a Pine Barren we have ALOT of blueberries on our property. Skunks are thick in numbers when the blueberries are ripe. The raccoons we've seen are big enough...
Wish I had been smart enough to do a little research on this BEFORE we lost a package due to this. The girls had feed 3" from where they starved to death. Another lesson learned.
I tried one that was empty and I could tell it would've had a hard time operating with a full load.
I bought a reconditioned 1.25 or 1.5 HP Wagner from Northern Tool Supply for I think around $150 or $200 back about 4 years ago. Did three coats on my house and garage with no problems in a fraction...
Ann and I ended up taking the "Task Force" brad nailer back to Lowe's today because it didn't have enough power to drive the brads home. We ended up buying a Hitachi 2" pneumatic that should have...
I've got an Mann-Lake 18 frame radial that I need a sat of hand crank gears for. Please let us know what you find out for cost.
The homemade ones I've seen have been pretty privative and simple to make. I thought about making my own but with brand new ones available for short money from Brushy Mt. during their free shipping...
Thanks for the grand tour Don. Had alot of fun and learned alot. We came away with more direction on what we need to do this year to better ourselves for healthier hives. On the way back Ann and I...
Carbide, 1-1/4 drywall screws? What a novel idea. Bet they hold better than the nails do. Seems like everybody here uses air nailers and not electric ones. Hope I don't have problems down the road.
Thank you Patrick and Sundance for posting those links. I've got a guide made by Oregon that clamps onto the bar. I can do a fairly decent job with it. Bought my first one at a yard sale for $3 and...
Ann bought me a "Task Force" from the local Lowe's. The two longest brads are 1-3/16th and 1-1/4" in length. A woman in our bee club has one{not sure of the brand} and it won't drive the long brads...
We too have had good luck with Mann Lake. Last year when we bought our extractor from them they filled it with the rest of our order to save us a little on the $200 shipping charge. Nice people to...
Thank you kindly for the info and quick response.
My wife bought me a electric 18 gauge brad nailer to help me when I'm assembling frames. Anyone here think the 18 gauge brads will be to wide and split the wood frames? Looks like it'll work fine but...
Our smaller hive is the one that was getting robbed earlier on in the year and we had to help it along. I got suited up so I could block off part of the entrance and by the time I got the smoker...
When my wife Ann and I went to bee school this past spring Brushy Mt. ran a special similar to this for first time beekeepers. I just placed a order for $420 and figure I saved a boatload of money...
Thanks for the heads up !! I've always had good luck with Brushy Mt.
I have a Stihl 044 that has never failed me. The dealer I bought if from also sold Husky and Jonsered saws which have mostly interchangeable engine parts. I went into the dealer to buy a Husky but...
jf01, My wife and I were going to use some Mite Away II for the mites until we read the directions. It said we had to remove the mouse guards to allow proper ventilation for the bees safety and what...
KellyCo seems to have good deals on many models in your price range. I too am looking to buy one but want the advice of someone in the know before I buy.If you do buy one please let me know how you...
Of the three supers we just took off our hives one is empty and two are very full. Not bad for our first year and only having two hives. We're wondering if we find any uncapped honey if we should...
