    Re: Double Nuc Question

Do you mean a 10 frame box on top of the 2nd level of the double nuc. I use these double nucs and would like to better understand how to do this. Thanks.

    Re: Three dead hives...

If you have a problem with the thought of treating bees then think of it as killing mites. If you have something in your hives that is going to kill the bees and do nothing that is mistreating bees...

Re: Deadout, reuse frames come this spring?

Could we get a little more detail on how to best use salvaged comb and honey from dead outs in making splits and nucs?

I don't think anyone mentioned this but don't try to mark or handle queens with gloves on.

    Re: Mating nuc question

Do like Michael Palmer says and use 5 frame nucs. Those small boxes are just a mess. The only thing they are any good for are queen banks and not real good for that. Hive beetles like them and other...

    Re: Winter's Here to Stay

On the far side it would be 3/4 inch. I see what you mean that they would build comb in that area. If I put excluder on the other side that would prevent that. The reason I did it that way is I...

    Re: Winter's Here to Stay

Michael Here is my knock off of your 3x6 breeder queen box. I was thinking of doing a divided 4 frame brood box with the excluder on both sides of the divider so the two sides of the box could move...

    Re: mites?

They are just muts I got from swarms and splits and so on. I didn't have much loses last year in spite of a rough winter but this year several of my nucs I had planned to over winter are getting weak...

If I don't see any deformed wings does that indicate that I don't have a mite problem?

    Re: Uncapping roller...do they work?

It works very well if you lightly roll it over the honey. If you push down hard it plugs up like the guy said.

    Re: Double Mating Nuc Boxes

The queen excluder keeps the queen out of the feeder so she won't drown. The sides of the feeder has a texture that the bees are able to walk on and not fall in the syrup.

    Re: Nuc boxes

You could shave 1/8 inch off the end bars of the frames and 5 will fit then. That's what folks do when they run 11 frames in a 10 frame brood box and that's what I do in my 4 frame nucs.

  19. Re: Making creamed/whipped honey have a softer consistency?

It sounds like its just cold. Let it sit on the table and get room temp and it should get softer.

    Re: collecting bees at night

Yeah just put a hive body without the bottom board over them and put a few frames with sugar water on them and they might just take to them.

You can do the same thing with a Gatorade bottle. Just drill some 1/16 holes in the lid.
