  1. Re: More foragers stay out overnight than you realize.

1/8" mesh works great in a pinch. I moved one early this morning for the same reason. I had the mesh on, but started seeing a quart of syrup leaving the feeder each day. Then saw the robbers going...

    Re: Queen Cage

Like maybe 3" x 1.5 x 1". Mine are that big because that is the size I had on hand. Most store bought plastic ones are even smaller. I think we are talking about the same thing.

    Re: somthing for newbs. robbing

I moved four, month old nucs to a different yard last Sat. Wow, what a difference. Now they have just forager travel and no robbing and it is quite a different scene. I still have one that I was...

Re: robber screens have bees confused?

All my small hives and nuc sized colonies wear the #8 screen across the front. In a week you will see which ones belong in there and which don't.

    Re: screened or solid base

New hives get a solid board, old hives I convert to screen with the option of sliding a solid board beneath. In the winter I can place soft styrofoam - like packing material in the gap in the back to...

Re: Moving Brood to a Nuc

I don't see a problem with your plan. I would consider slapping some syrup on the nuc and maybe a screen on the entrance. When I leave mine in the same yard there is always some robbing from the...

    Fyi:
Found this in case someone wants to know...looks like you can use the powder in a water solution. Therefore, the "Safer" brand label might be an option. Wasn't sure if the powders were for...

    Bt where to buy?

Anyone have a brand name of spray for wax moth larvae that I can buy in retail stores? Like home depot, ace hardware, tractor supply, lowes, etc?
  13. Re: When do you guys feel comfortable not to wear protection?

Uh...better have at least a veil. I have been wearing a veil and long sleeve white dress shirt lately. Seems easy to throw it on.

I see the same videos and wonder what the outtakes look like.

Smoked them tonight and they went right in. Slapped a larger entrance on them and screened for move in the morning. Left more than usual ventilation at the top with some top feeder screened inner...

    Best time to move?

When is the best time to move hives? I went before daylight to move some and they already had foragers bringing back pollen. Did they start early or get caught after dark somewhere? Then when I get...

Re: Moving In or Robbing? VIDEO

When it seems like the activity is too good to be true, it usually is. I just reinstalled 1/8" screen over all splits because I am seeing about 10 times the traffic there was a few days ago. Simple...

    Swarm @ 7:00

  25. Re: Installing a queen tomorrow but the attendant bee has come out of the clip and is

Put her in the hive this morning and the bees will feed her. I put mine between the frames positioned so the bees can take care of her. They will feed her through the screen.
