    Virgin vs Mated

    Hi All,

I had a capped queen cell in a hive that I made a split for. After about a week I saw that they built multiple queen cells in the split (at least one other capped one) and everything...

Re: Stop Robbing vs. Let The Queen Mate

Here's a quick video of what's going on... I still see some bees going between the hives, but hopefully the capped brood I put in with the split will hatch soon and help defend.

    Interestingly, I...

Re: Stop Robbing vs. Let The Queen Mate

Thanks for all the input everyone. I did notice today that once they've drained the syrup jar that the activity around the hive really settles down. I'll try it without the feed for a while and see...

Oh wow, thank you for the quick response. That makes me feel better. Luckily, we don't have too long or too cold of a winter here.

Maybe she just quit for the winter or realized they couldn't...

    things looking bad

Well, I don't think my hive is going to make it. Going into the first winter and here's the situation:

Probably two months ago I noticed that there seemed to be fewer bees in the hive. I still...

    Built Up

Here's a picture of my hive - had the bees about 60 days now. Comb on 22 bars; probably 18 are full comb. They've got probably 6 or so that are mostly honey at this point - so 12 that are brood.

    Re: Bees ignoring comb?

very interesting - thanks for the tips. i figure that once they've got the brood nest filled back in they'll head back to that comb again. That's only 2 or three bars that need filling in.

    Re: Bees ignoring comb?
