Local honey from the Colebrook/Torrington area
backer bees: justjn2003@yahoo.com
So far, as of this past week-end, nothing from the nw corner of Ct.
Could have missed them coming in with something, and think we are far behind last year at this time.
Good to read that others...
Welcome to the site: A great place to meet and learn with others.

I understand the 'break-even' point in this situation.
Here's what I decided to do:
Started a 4 frame nuc, from a strong hive, at the LW b/yard with some extra bees added. Placed on mostly drawn...
Not sure if you still have a need, but I phoned in to Koehnen, late last week for 3 Cord/It. queens, and had no problem.
Arriving this coming Wednesday.
Welcome some feedback:
I have a LW hive, 0ne deep with bees covering 4 frames ( newer package).
Knowing of some methods to save the hive, I am wondering if taking all bees to new location and...
Took a trip to the bee yard today, which including watching the 2 beef cows of the land owner. They are truly large animals with a soft and friendly disposition, know me as I water them, and were in...
Thanks Corinne,
I have been to all the links you provided except the British link. Have mailed Randy Oliver too, and he was kind enough to send a reply.
It apprears that spraying is not very...
I have been trying to research concentrations of thymol to be used in a spray along with wintergreen oil.
The ratios for the thymol cords/fogger, according to some feedback, may not be at a level...
How important is the pierco foundation color?
Do the bees really care, particularly if the foundation is new and has to be drawn out?
Saw this just yesterdat, and might be helpful.

I will be using a 1/2 amp trickle charger. A bit slow but very controlled amount of heat thru the wire on tests I have done.
Like the idea of using an old battery direct, and just keeping it...
Just a thanks for a referral, and the direct contact.
Actually this is for the person who got me interested in beekeeping, my brother.
He is new to the site, and I know his time is limited at...
Need to know if there is a local-ish assc. in this area?
Thanks.
Some good links for info, thanks.
Hive location was off South Rd/202 in New Hartford. According to a neighbor, the beast was in the 450# class, and has been in that area for some time.
It's a shame that the location there is lost...
Took a walk looking for crocus, but found nothing.
I had thought about the conifers too, but did not find anything visible. It caught me by surprise to see them collecting anything so early.

On checking the bees today, I found them bringing in large amounts of orange colored pollen. As nothing too much is happening here yet, I am wondering what might be available at this time of the...
Agree with you that alcohol will get the thymol to dissolve.
Have also just read tonight here on the site that there are some published equations/recipes for making a base syrup. I think...
I have done a little research into thymol. My thoughts were to incorporate it into a sugar syrup, and to use primarily in a spray application for the general IPM of mites. It would be added to othe...
I like to cut down a pallet about the size of the box. Found it easier to work from the ground than place the colony on a full pallet, and standing on the slats.
Like what I read about screwing...
Have been informed that the thymol would not mix will in a water based syrup, along with some essential oils, for use in a spray for mite control.
Toxicity levels and their measurement is a question...
