Here's what I have used. http://www.durablesupply.com/popamafipc.html
It was easy to get the hang of by practicing on drones.
Never seen this before, but I have a couple of queens with tattered wings. I assume they are tattered because of similar behavior inside the hive.
MikeFoster- I understand where you're coming from. My bees are in a friend's small orchard (apple & cherry) and we rarely see a bee on his trees. With 6 hives, 3 of them booming this year, I thought...
8 frame boxes with 9 1.25" frames inside. All the benefits of 8 frame hives and almost as much surface area as 10 frames.
Another option is to move a frame with brood down there. The bees will follow and begin to expand sideways as long as the colony is big enough.
Sounds like I'm an outlier but I've gradually set aside sting protection. From gloves, to long sleeve shirt, to veil, to smoking before opening the hive it all seems mostly unecessary at this point....
I cut mine with a hot blade and they haven't frayed with 2 months of use.
If Skagit bees are anything like Bellingham bees, they'll be happy as long as it comes from a microbrewery.
I don't know if it would. There is not much fluid on a strip to be spread into the honey and since it's legal to use with supers on they probably don't think bees will move it throughout the hive.
Hello neighbor,
According to the package it's okay to treat your brood chamber with Hopguard during a flow. We just got the first few blossoms in Bellingham this week too and I'm crossing my fingers...
Greg might have some Carni's available.
"Available now pick up Bellingham or Lynden WA.
Price $15-25 each depending upon quantity. Will not ship at this time.
These are from a NWC breeder,...
Funny, I had the same thought. The bears I'm used to aren't so broad in the shoulders. Those East Coast bears must work out.

Then I should have given you fair context. I'm a sophomore beekeeper with 4 hives in my backyard and the late Dave Cushman was a beekeeper respected around the world for his research and advice...
I build my own bottom boards and have never used landing boards but some people say they increase honey production.
Check out "Mouse ramps" at the bottom of the page for a dissenting opinion....

These classes (above) also will be offered in June through Washington State University.

I'm happy to have never had to deal with this but I hear that a few drops of Lemon Grass Oil around the rim will encourage the bees to use your preferred water source.
This thread on TBH cutouts might be helpful. http://www.beesource.com/forums/showthread.php?267360-Using-hairclips It has some great pics of the hairclip method and another method using hardware...
Here's a webpage with a few record keeping options. http://www.dave-cushman.net/bee/assessmentcriteria.html
Here's a link to a pdf on the Vermont Beekeepers website about bear proofing. http://www.vermontbeekeepers.org/images/pdf/Bearproofing_Booklet%20PDF.pdf
No, if they sting me it's because I've been to rough or impatient, opening the hive on a damp day.
Perhaps you're thinking of the Beltsville lab in Maryland? If so, here's a link. http://www.ars.usda.gov/Services/docs.htm?docid=7473
The "deep dangle" :D. I did this last year for the first time and it worked well. Just be careful of two things.
1) With the queen separated from the brood by just an excluder my bees raised some...
Be careful with this method. If the brood is separated from the queen by an excluder the nurse bees will likely raise some virgins in her absence. Even though she is just one box away they think...
Good idea but I don't have a flaring tool. Have you done it this way? Since copper tubing has thicker walls and a narrower ID does it noticeably restrict the flow?
Thanks Charlie B.. Off to Home...
