Re: Why or why not Carniolans?

Those that have Carniolans, what is your overwintering success rate? Locally here you are lucky to get 50-60% of Italians to overwinter.

Re: Why or why not Carniolans?

Why do so many say to get Italians first. It seems that Carniolans would be a better choice. Where would be good place to get two queens on the east coast?

Preparing a single deep for winter

I have a hive that did not build up past a single. I am going to start feeding them. I did some reading, that some put a deep below the brood box. They say it helps with heat. Has anyone tried this?...

    Re: SARE and Grant ideas

I also said that it may be best to get a small business loan. Did not know if there were any grants out there. Not really just a hand out, as I do pay taxes. It would be a new tax base that was not...

    SARE and Grant ideas

Some ideas to try to get a grant. Would like to grow to 40 hives in the spring. May just be easier to get a small business loan instead. At least in VA they will give you $200 per hive.

Thank you. Planning on a quick look tomorrow in top box, this will determine if I add a box. If they do not draw it out, I will just take it off. Just hope they will over winter.
