    Re: No Honey (yet)

The only advice I can offer is my own experience this year.

Two packages installed early April. Built up like crazy. Hives are all medium boxes.
They both had 3 boxes completely filled by mid...

Re: Questions on two first year hives

    You got that right...

The plan is to expand to 5 hives next spring and my wife has already selected the names.

    #4 will be MM.

    #5 will be ET.

As someone advised..let the bees sort it out.

Re: Questions on two first year hives

Re: Questions on two first year hives

No. Nothing like that. And nothing capped.

However in the other hive, BD, I found this:

    19804

    Definitely drone brood.

Question now is what do I do?

Re: Introducing queen to queenless hive

No brood. They have been queenless long enough that all the brood has hatched.
No laying workers yet. But Im verifying that with tomorrows inspection.

Plenty. At least until they started backfilling the brood nest. Not sure exactly when that happened.

Lots. Saw quite a few bees still bringing in pollen. Most frames have capped pollen and...

Re: Questions on two first year hives

Good idea. Although its difficult to handle the frames, handle the camera, and take pictures.
Need to get or fashion something to rest a frame on so I can photo it.

    If it ever stops raining...

Re: Questions on two first year hives

probably a good plan. but all my equipment is tied up in the two hives. Nothing to put a nuc in.

guess Im finding it hard to believe both hives went queenless at the same exact time

Re: Questions on two first year hives

Possible I suppose. And that might explain the one hive that had some open queen cells but not
the other hive that had NO queen cells.
