    Good post raven. Thanks!
  3. Re: Controlling Pests on Young Apple trees in my Apiary

Aphids are a problem on my trees. The young leaves are susceptible and show a wrinkling affect. I mix a cup of joy soap with a gallon of water and spray them down. Works for me. Good luck

  8. Re: Greenbeehive.com anyone buy from them in past.

Greenbee has good stuff but I'd like to add that you need to go to practical beekeeping dot com. Mr.Bush recommends using all medium eight frame. I did it and ALL my equipment is the same and I never...

    Re: Combining hives question again

following. I just combined my weak hive(pulled the queen to make a lure) and did the newspaper method. the weak one has struggled all year and I hated to see them suffer thru a cold winter.
  10. Re: What to do next cause I lack the experience.

Went and did an inspection today. The queen is mated and larva were seen in the cells. Quite amazing creatures these are. Didn't find any evidence of a laying worker, the hive is calm a docile. All...
  11. Re: What to do next cause I lack the experience.

Thanks all! As weird as it sounds I'm kind of glad both hives didn't go perfectly. I've read a lot about queen less hives and how they behave. I got to experience something small in such a large...
  12. What to do next cause I lack the experience.

Installed a package on 4April2014 and by the 29th It was queenless. On 5May2014 I spotted 6 queencells As for the first queen she did lay a good round of initial brood in four partial frames. Today...

    Interesting.
  16. Re: Foundationless frames for the foundationless of knowledge?

Tried the fishing line. The weight of the wax just pulled it right off the line. Didn't have any rubber bands at the time. Think next time I'm gonna try the bands.

    Re: Loud bees!!!!

You stated you released her. Did you leave her in a cage for a few days and then release her or just put her in there?
  19. Re: Foundationless frames for the foundationless of knowledge?

Ok. Thought I'd posted a reply but hadn't. Here's my observations so far. I hung the cage and left it for 3 full days. Feeding 2:1 with bee healthy supplement. Within three days they had built a hand...
  20. Re: Foundationless frames for the foundationless of knowledge?

Just installed my two packages and everything went smoothly. Both hives are level side to side. I just cant keep from going outside and watching them. Thanks so much for you input. It is greatly...

Re: Question - all 8 frame mediums

From what I've read, 3 lb. package into one medium box will be fine. That's my plan this spring except I'm using all foundationless.
  24. Foundationless frames for the foundationless of knowledge?

I love to read instructions. I'm a protocol driven person. That's the way my brain is set up but I realize that occasionally that sometimes one has to deviate from the manual and make an executive...
