Re: almond spraying, more than usual for you?

I am seeing that too from one of my orchards near Tracy, and got a list of chemicals the almond grower applied. The labels all say nothing about toxicity to bees.

    Re: how's your summer

Jim and Chip pretty much summed up what we are seeing too here in SW ND. Cautiously optimistic about this years crop.

Side note: Also seeing more than our fare share of ticks. I started...

Re: Who's got a Bee Blog?

My blog and website is at www.tjobees.com.

I started it mainly because we started selling nucs and also to farmer's markets and selling honey. It seems like the customers like knowing more...
  4. Re: Dan Rather report on bee shortage in Calif almonds

    JRG13:
They do spray the sunflowers. As long as they use Asana, we don't move bees. It has a bee repellant in it and the bees generally stay away from the sunflowers for a bit. Have not seen any...
  5. Re: Dan Rather report on bee shortage in Calif almonds

What makes no sense to me is why some beekeepers can have high losses running bees in the exact same area as other beekeepers not seeing the losses.

We (meaning my folk, I work closely with them...
  6. Re: Dan Rather report on bee shortage in Calif almonds

Pretty depressing. There were certainly elements of truth, but they were mixed with mass generalizations, with an incomplete story. There were high bee losses and that is true. But, they didn't...

We'll have to give the guy in Moorehead a call today.

Getting past the sensational title of this thread, it does lead to some interesting questions.

In our small corner of the world, we have noticed a huge increase in the amount of corn planted,...
