I keep an epipen at the house because I sometimes react to shrimp. And I love shrimp. LOL. Stings have never reacted like that, before or since, so I hope it was a freak occurrence. Like mentioned...
  4. Anyone ever have an extreme abnormal reaction to a single sting?

Stings have never really bothered me, short of the itch afterwards. Even less so now that I have been keeping bees for a couple of years. Except for this one. A few weeks ago I took a sting to the...

Re: Any reason not to use this as smoker fuel?

That is what I use. A couple handfuls of whatever pellets I have laying around for my smokers, hickory, cherry, apple, then light with the torch. I like it to smell good when I am working bees. ...

  14. Re: Split some hives, is this a hatched queen cell?

If it swarmed it had to be a tiny one. The hive was absolutely busting with bees. Not sure how many more would have fit
  15. Re: Split some hives, is this a hatched queen cell?

hopefully we stopped it with the split. Checkerboarded the existing brood in the top deep frame in the parent hive. Took out all the extra queen cells.
  16. Split some hives, is this a hatched queen cell?

Did some hive splits, found lots of queen cells. Saved the best looking capped cells for the split and took out the rest. Question is, is this a hatched queen cell? And is this the newly hatched...

A few photos from our hive splits

Barely got to them in time, lots of queen cells. Picked out the best ones to save for the split and did away with the rest.
