The second queen starts out just right of the reflecting light. They are side by side about 4 seconds into the video
That's awesome. I have a split hive, and on 2 occations I found both queens on one side of the hive. Most don't believe me that they didn't fight, but the were both laying on the same frame! ...
WOW, Pretty interesting. Thanks for posting.

Canada would be flooded with american honey colonies, and half of canadian beekeepers would be in california driving down polination contracts. + what Allen said about package prices. Lose Lose. No...
We saw the same thing here in Northern BC. The queens had totally stopped laying until the weather warmed up to about 60F. Make sure they have a pollen source, pattie or other, and they will start...
Hi HiveGuy,
I have been thinking about it a fair bit lately, but have not come to a finalized plan. I suspect that I will end up testing 2 methods:
1. Queenless nuc with bank of queens, no...
Wow, TB III on Canada is about $65/gal! TB II is $40.
Thanks for the info. If I have extra queens this fall, it may be worth a shot, better than simply killing them.
Thanks Michael, I agree that an observation hive would make it much more complex. How warm would you need to keep it? Could you screen them and keep them indoors (70F)? Does the increased...
I was just thinking the same thing, but not in an observation hive. I'm sure its been tried, but does anyone know of any successful wintering of banked queens? I'm from Canada, so I'm talking a 4-5...
Yep, if she isn't there and laying by 5/14 something went wrong.
Depending what you are making, you may wish to use 3/4" fir tongue and groove. Its cheaper than traditional 3/4" and if you rip about 8" off one edge, then use that strip to mate with the next...
It is more difficult for them to breakdown granulated canola honey, so its not great for winter reserves. But like what was stated, its unlikely it will granulate during the summer in the hive.
I agree with cg3. Then just before you leave, do the best you can to prepare the hives, Adding supers, killing swarm cells, feeding, whatever they need.

Or purchase a new queen or 2 if they are available.

I don't quite understand the original hive situation either, but sure sounds like it does not have a viable queen. If it were mine, I would move one of those frames with the queen cells on it back...
Good11s, here is basically all you need to know about splits/nucs.

I recommend you switch off the HD feed, as many people have trouble watching it in HD....
Try watching in SD mode. I think the default is HD, which doesn't work well.
I would be interested to hear what you guys settle on for a rate. A fellow beek and I are at the stage that one of needs to purchase an extractor, and we will need a custom extracting deal. Please...

Here is what I was thinking: When I look to buy bees, I can turn 1 nuc into 1 hive and 1 nuc for next winter. When I look at Quality drawn out supers, they cost more than new price. (Drawing out...
Thanks for the insights Allen,
The biggest struggle I am fighting with is the chicken and the egg. When to buy what extracting equipment/ buildings. With today's CIFA expectations it is...
Yeah, Crazy as it sounds, with the almost 22 hrs of summer sunshine here in the north we can get some big honey crops.:applause:

I should have given a little more back ground info... better late than never. Thanks all for the comments so far. This is a sideline business and a few thousand here or there is not going to break...
