  1. Re: need advice on stored honey frames for last year.

They are sealed with plastic now, but the chest freezer will be purchased soon
  2. Re: need advice on stored honey frames for last year.

I just discovered that the ones I'm using have an opening right under the handle. My bins were basically a beehive with a nice entrance for them to access.
  3. Re: need advice on stored honey frames for last year.

Oh I have no plan to open feed. I just thought that since they found the stored goods in the open garage [20 yard from the hives] that I'd treat it like open feeding. I inspected my hives today and...
  4. Re: need advice on stored honey frames for last year.

Ok, lesson learned. I knew these stored frames were going to be a problem. I just got in from hopefully resolving the issue. I emptied bins and got all bees off the frames. I placed frames back...
  5. Re: need advice on stored honey frames for last year.

I am working on cleaning up the garage now while I inspect hives and add the cleaned and drawn mediums to the supers an removing any undrawn frames. I'm going to saran wrap the top of the 1 bin with...
  6. Re: need advice on stored honey frames for last year.

Ha! It appears they have made up my mind for me. I just got my first lesson on how fast bees can pick clean frames.... about 4 days. These frames are spotless man. Just a few honey super frames...
  7. need advice on stored honey frames for last year.

I have tuperware bins filled with large and medium frames. Many of these frames have honey in them. Since the flow is winding down, the bees seem to have found these bins. They are actually...

Re: do I need to act?

Clyde, thanks , and my wife also thanks you. She knew I was stressing about it. I will start rotating some of those full honey frames in and store the surplus in a much more sensible location on...

Uh ohh. She's here with me now. I went camping a day before here and now we are both here. I believe it's supposed to rain all day tomorrow and hopefully that will be my saving grace.

Re: do I need to act?

Yes, the bins are closed but I assume not air tight. I think when I get back on sunday, I'll start replacing the outer honey frames in my deeps with these surplus ones in storage. I did notice...

    do I need to act?

My wife calls me today and tells me that there are billions of bees flying around the deck and detached garage (door is always open).
Turns out, as I suspected that it is actually more like hundreds...
  14. Re: just realized one hive has wrong outer cover.

understood, and that makes sense. my normal set up is with the notched inner cover and telescoping cover. this was just an isolated case as there was an error when I purchased this particular...
  15. Re: just realized one hive has wrong outer cover.

I have popsicle sticks between the 2 covers, however, still a lot of bees outside the hive at night and I noticed all my other hives had bees coming out of inner cover top entrance. I will probably...

Re: Picture of a Virgin Queen

I think roberto may be right. The eyes look different and the thorax is shiny and smooth and quite a bit darker.
  19. Re: just realized one hive has wrong outer cover.

Thanks! now I have to take up drinking so I can get corks.lol I'll try this set up on my next hive or two and see how it works for me.
  20. Re: just realized one hive has wrong outer cover.

I figured as much. I'll make sure I get some cork and plug them back up for winter.

    Thanks
  21. just realized one hive has wrong outer cover.

I just realized that one of my hives outer covers is not a telescoping cover. Every other hive had bees coming out of top entrances but this one. That's when I realized. I remedied this by...
