    Re: Making Spring Splits

What's one more opinion to the bunch? LOL I'm a fan of what I call a "weak queen mother split". It works like this, as the hive is getting built up and strong and you are thinking split, go ahead...

If I could get a good plastic foundation that was small cell I'd...

    Re: Lip Balm...

Well I broke down and bought tubes and a filling tray from www.bulkapothecary.com GREAT prices and it got here in like 2 business days. I made a video of me making the balm and putting in the tubes....
  6. Re: Anyone have a propolis lip balm recipe to share

I would go ahead and try the simple beeswax and coconut oil lipbalm, see a thread on that topic in this section. Coconut oil also has antiviral properties, so if you were to add a little of the...

    Re: BeeTree...

They won't, but I'm more worried about getting momma and the on going beehive than I am about the boys. They'll end up dead on the bottom of the log, no biggie.

    BeeTree...

Here's a couple videos on a bee tree I went and got. My plan is to keep them in there over winter and get them out in the spring. Seems to be a nice size nest of bees. I'm feeding them some syrup...

    Re: Nuc questions

I think the easiest and perhaps most successful way to introduce that nuc queen to the production hive is to take the frame she is currently on, along with all the bees, and place that into the...

UMMMMM, I don't think you are supposed to leave honey supers on when you treat with checkmite???? I could be wrong
  14. Re: Why do they build only drone comb if I use foundationless next to foundation?

Basically what he said. If you are going to do foundationless you have to allow them their drone frames. I just put them in the 1,2 or 9,10 position and when they need drones queen will lay in...

Re: D Coates 5 frame Nuc Design

Every end grain gets painted with titebond 2 and then the exterior paint. I have boxes that are 4 or 5 years old and are still in service. It's a small step to make the equipment last for years and...

    Re: Medium hives

You'd be better served to set up a trade with someone who wants a deep frame of brood and has a medium to trade or wait till it's empty, you can keep it in position 1 or 10 and it should end up empty...

I transitioned 2 hives from deeps to mediums this year for a friend I was helping. I think the hardest part to get over is just getting started. We took the deep box off of the bottom board and...

I think you're being unfair to terrorists, SHBS are much worse :D , I call them spawn of satan LOL.
  19. Re: EXTRACTING FOUNDATIONLESS and WIRELESS FRAMES

I helped friends extract yesterday with a new Maxant extractor. We did 3 deep frames 1 of which had foundation, the other 2 were foundationless. not a blowout to bee seen anywhere.
  20. Re: EXTRACTING FOUNDATIONLESS and WIRELESS FRAMES

I had blow out when I tried extracting my frames radially. When I switched to do them tangentially I hardly ever get blow out. My extractor (maxant) has a nice basket that supports the comb...

Re: hive beetles and comb gnawing

Not to mention the smell of disruption (shaking the bees out is certainly a disruption) will attract the SHBS. Spawn of SAtan they are.

    Re: Foundationless frames

Not what you asked for, but it's just as easy or easier to buy wedge top frames, pop the wedge out, turn it 90 degrees then staple glue it back into place.
