    Re: Splitting Advice

Why not take 2 frames of capped brood and the bees on these frames from each hive (6 frames total) and put 3 frames into each nuc box? Then finish the nuc box with 1 frame honey/nectar and 1 frame...

Re: How late is too late?

I would say she has to emerge before they start kicking the drones out. This will be dependent upon your location and the fall weather.

Re: how do you do it ?

Try numbing the sting site with ice before stinging.

I had a ganglion cyst on my wrist. I stung it 2-3 times a day for about 7-10 days. I didn't use ice. It got easier each time. (Also, the cyst...
  5. Re: Will a queen catcher work for a queenless hive test?

Workers can pass through a queen catcher. Then they can potentially kill her. Test with a queen cage.

Re: two deep hive one deep full of honey

What is in the brood chamber? Is your queen laying? Does she have room?

If she has no room, I'd pull all the honey from the deeps, extract and give them the emptys to work on from now until...

    Re: Honey Paw Uncapper

I was pleased with the uncapper.

We extracted 4 deeps this weekend. All the wax that ran through the extractor resulted in about 1 cup of wax that was caught by the wire strainers.

    The new...
  11. Re: What's the best way to get bees out of supers for extracting?

    Shake them off.

Don shows you how he does it in the first 2 minutes.

We shake them in front of the hive where he shows shaking them into the top.

Start looking about 4 minutes in and you can hear what he does or will do to correct comb.

    Re: queenless help

If it is queenless, the bees won't care what kind of eggs they have to work with.

If it has been queenless for a while and developed laying workers, then it may take several cycles of adding...

    Re: Royal Bee Supply beware

In my opinion the seller was indeed wrong for selling this as a nuc, but the buyer was negligent too. For starters, a nuc should not have queen cells and a caged queen. Looking would have generated...

    Re: Royal Bee Supply beware

Did you pick them up or have them shipped? I presume you are talking about a Nuc that you ordered.

If you picked them up, then shame on you for not looking at it.

If you had it shipped, then...

  20. Re: Abandonment method for clearing supers: Just pulled boxes. I'm worried. Need advi

I would recommend that next time you try shaking the bees from the frames with just 4 supers. They will crawl right back into the hive and you don't have your honey unprotectected and absorbing...

She may come back to the hive but you may want to start looking for a replacement.
  22. Re: Abandonment method for clearing supers: Just pulled boxes. I'm worried. Need advi

Don't be surprised to find robbing in your honey supers especially if your flow has slowed.

What other methods did you explore and what made you choose this one?

    Re: Worms in comb

Re: should i add supers ?

I'd give them room and super liberally. If they don't need the room, then you haven't lost anything. My concern in AL would be giving a hive too much room to defend against SHB. You can always...
