Re: Are These White Spots a Problem?

Thanks, that is a relief. I thought that was probably what it was, but without much experience was not sure.

Wonder what it is? I will have to look around and see if I can figure it out.

Are These White Spots a Problem?

I just went out to observe my hive and saw something I have not seen before. Quite a few bees have rectangular white spots on their backs, between the wings. The spots are about 1/16" long and half...

Re: Bee Hive as Security While Away From Home?

    Kidbeeyoz

Thanks for the article referral. Interesting to learn about the use of bees for offense and defense, even in war.

Particularly liked the quote "meat seeking missiles"!

Re: Bee Hive as Security While Away From Home?

Oh, I already have lights, timers, motion sensors, cameras, alarms, and neighborhood watch. I was just curious if anyone had used their hives this way and if it worked.

Bee Hive as Security While Away From Home?

I am considering being away from my home for a few months and am considering different ways to provide security while away. I have one active hive, and enough boxes for several more. I am...

Re: The Slovenian Beehive Arrives in the US

    D. Coates

Is the Slovenian Hive just a 3 frame observation hive then? They do not look alike.

Re: Think I Quit Feeding Too Soon

    UPDATE:

I restarted feeding and the bees took it readily. After a week or so had new eggs and larva. Now have worker and drone pupae, with hatching out daily.

I am convinced I quit feeding...

Re: What are fiber pot traps?

I was curious because I have had a trap with frames out for 2 years, this year with Swarm Commander, and not a sniff. Live is a semi-rural area with lots of trees and brush, but no known beekeepers...

    What are fiber pot traps?

I see recurring references to 'fiber pot traps', which seem to be very effective, but do not really know what they are. What do they look like, where can one get them, and why do they seem to work...

Wax moth larva, or is it something else?

Hive check today. Colony is fine, with new comb, lots of larvae, both worker and drone (no queen cells).

When I removed the bottom screen cover I found some frass, and 4-5 larvae and 3 pupae. ...

Re: Think I Quit Feeding Too Soon

I don't think they swarmed or superceded. Never saw any evidence of queen cells. I think she just took a break. They seem very active and about the same number of bees. Are all over the 1:1.

Think I Quit Feeding Too Soon

My hive made it through the winter ok, and I decided to feed with 1:1 and pollen sub in Jan. They took it well and the queen started laying quite well, bees making some new comb. Come early March...

Re: Bee-Havior Change With The Time Of Year?

In any case, there were so many angry bees that the suit needs to be cleaned for sure!

Bee-Havior Change With The Time Of Year?
