    Re: Mann Lake Extractor

I bought in 2013 and have no complaints. Runs smooth and makes very little noise. I bolt mine down to a half sheet of 3/4 in. plywood.
  2. Re: Critter Eats Bees and Defecates in Front of Hive

I've had more trouble this year than in the past....usually just one or maybe two stinkers scratching on the hives. So far, I have caught four this winter. I have been using the standard live trap,...

    Re: Mann Lake 5-frame nucs

Oh well.....can't have everything. Looks like the Brushy Boxes have hand holds on the ends....that's a plus that Mann Lake didn't have.

Re: Hive check time. 15 degrees though.

I would just rap on the box to see if they are alive. If the hive has some heft to it, I would call it good til warmer weather. I would only open the hive if it is light and needs sugar.

    Re: Mann Lake 5-frame nucs

I'm with you Risky, and the end panels don't even have cut outs to deal with either. Oh well, I'm sure they had their reasons. First time I have ever had a reason to be disappointed with Mann Lake....

I was just wondering if anybody had bought any 5-frame nucs from Mann Lake recently. I noticed the online catalog picture they have appears to be a different style box. It looks to have a cleat...

    Re: Mating nuc question

153171531815319drlonzo...outside measurement of the grow boxes are 10" and yes, you have about 3/16" hanging over on each side of a standard 5-frame nuc box, but it works just fine. I have not had...

    Re: Mating nuc question

1530315304The Mann Lake "grow boxes" don't match up with a 5-frame nuc, so I started building a 13 frame version that matches up just fine. I just started using a a few of the mini nucs(6-frame)this...

Re: Bottling Tank using the Maxant No Drip Valve

I was in the same boat as you and decided to go with the 16 gallon Maxant. One of the best moves I ever made...its worth every penny. Makes dealing with granulated honey a breeze!

We are about 100 miles north and west of you. Kinda funny....the tree directly behind the bees was a nice big fat hollow tree....bees never cease to amaze.

Re: Preparing a single deep for winter

I put 2" shims on late as possible, usually mid to late November...then wrap with tarpaper. The sugar also helps absorb moisture, keeping your bees dry. You want to do it late as possible or they...
