    Queen castle?

Am thinking about raising a few queens for my own use next year, just to try. Wondering what the easiest way to go about that is with using as few a bees as possible would be. Been reading up on...

    Bee yard contract?

Does anyone use some type of contract when putting bees on someone's property? Or, do you just go with a verbal and hope for the best? Just wondering, especially when it's someone's place you don't...

    When can I peek?

Had a queenless dwindle down to about 2 frames of bees. Put them in nuc added frames of honey, pollen, frame with eggs, larva and brood and more bees. Also been feeding. They've made a queen cell...

    Re: Update on unattended hive

Colino, the brood box was a 10 frame Western deep with only 5 frames in it to start with when I got it. It only had a very small patch of brood started in it. But now they are picking up very nicely.

    Update on unattended hive

I ended up taking all the messed up comb out of the brood box that had been unattended for 6 years. Put in 8 drawn out frames and 2 with a little honey. I think they are happy with their new, neat...

    Trap-outs successful

Over this last season, I have done 4 trap-outs. I have read on the forum, that generally speaking, using just the cone traps, don't usually get the queen. I am feeling pretty lucky, out of the 4 I...

Re: Hive not tended too for 6 years

beepro, It certainly would be hard to do, only because those 5 frames barely fit in a 10 frame box, let a lone trying to get them into a 5 frame nuc. But, it was probably my explanation of the whole...

Re: Hive not tended too for 6 years

shinebone- I did transfer to new hive, frame by frame. Did not cut them out and rubber them into new frames though. The problem being is that there was only 5 frames in a 10 frame box. So, those 5...

Hive not tended too for 6 years

My son-in-law came across a lady who said she had a bee hive in her hay field. She told him it had been on her property since she moved in, 6 years ago. She told him that I could have it, if I wanted...
  15. Re: Questions about replacing a mean queen??

I suppose it all depends on how mean they are. I have two hives that are a little more aggressive than my others, but not bad enough that I don't want to work them. Those two are my best hives for...

Re: Caught a swarm barehanded in the air!

That must have been exciting, good job. Don't your dead queens smell like alcohol?
  19. Re: follow up to two trap-outs, two questions?

jimsteelejr- Went ahead and put up two trap-out boxes up. The first evening, there was a handful sized cluster of bees gathered on the wall in between the two boxes. No one home at the residence the...
  20. Re: follow up to two trap-outs, two questions?

jimsteelejr- these bee's I'm doing the trap out on have two entrances' into one hive. Can I block off one entrance to set the trap at lowest entrance, or will it totally confuse the bee's at the top...
  21. Re: follow up to two trap-outs, two questions?

jimsteelejr-Yes, a bee vac would be the way too go. My dad and I tried making one, but haven't got the suction fine tuned yet. Last time I used it, would'nt suck hard enough to keep the hose from...
  22. Re: follow up to two trap-outs, two questions?

jimsteelejr-The homeowner is going to do the repair work and clean-up. But, he wants to bee's out first.
  23. follow up to two trap-outs, two questions?

An earlier post about a house that had bee's entering by two windows. Windows are directly above one another, 1st and 2nd story windows. Wasn't sure if it was one colony or two. Homeowner had a heat...
  24. Re: Two different trap-outs, two questions?

djei5, I don't think the homeowner wants to be cutting and removing siding with all the bee's still there. I'm not comfortable doing it myself that far up ( at least too the second story window ),...
