    Thanks for all the comments. Still not sure- had no bees left at all- but mites seem to be the most likely cause.

    I'm a hobbyist with 4 hives in central NY. I checked my hives today and my two strongest hives, which seemed fine two weeks ago had absconded. One hive produced 160# this year and the other 100#....
