  1. Re: NEW 5- FRAME CORRUGATED PLASTIC NUC BOX

Are these designed to be put together once or after splitting season can they be broken down and stored flat? If the plastic bends a bunch of times will it crack? Will they handle 80-90 degrees...
  2. Re: I have questions about transporting queen cells.

I have a styrofoam cooler that my mom gets her medicine delivered in. It's about 11''x11'' and about 5'' high. On the bottom it has 25 perfectly spaced raised circles. If I was to cut out the...
  3. Re: I have questions about transporting queen cells.

These are two frame splits in a 5 frame nuc.
  4. Re: I have questions about transporting queen cells.

Do you lay the cells on their sides or did you fashion something to hold them vertical?
  5. Re: I have questions about transporting queen cells.

Yes. That's why I was thinking that a nuc would be a good idea.
  6. I have questions about transporting queen cells.

I picked up 22 queen cells earlier this month and 8 of the splits are still queenless. I transported the cells in a small styrofoam cooler with a warm water bottle and a towel. I laid the cells on...

Re: My smoker smoke may be too hot

Something that I do to help catch any embers and cool the smoke down is to put a rolled up wad of green vegetation. Pine needles give you a nice cool thick smoke till you get down to embers then...
  8. Re: How long before inserting your queen cell do you make up your mating nuc?

I make up the splits the day before and place the cells on the next day. From my understanding it gives them time to realize their queenless and they except the cell with no problem. I have seen...

Re: Swarm commander: Does It Really Work?

    Well they finally moved in!

I went by yesterday and noticed bees in between the nuc and the wall so I cracked the lid and sure enough a huge swarm finally moved in. There's so many bees I think I...

  15. Re: Moved hive. Queen might have fallen out.

Not to state the obvious but the only way to know for sure is to open it up and have a look. I moved bees this last weekend on my flatbed and had a upper box slip off and fall in the middle of an...

I'm old. I can't even wrap my mind around the concept of a 3D printer. I guess I'm going to have to spend some time learning about this.

    Re: Acorn Frames

I'm not a big fan of plastic frames either. I've heard you can ask to have the frames of foundation resprayed so you get a thicker coat of beeswax on it. That's my plan when I order again.

Re: Wax moth issue where to get bt aizawai?

I'm wondering the same thing. I have 80 deeps and 40 shallows that I've sprayed down with the stuff. I hope to never see wax moth damage anymore, at least not in these hives.

    Can people that...

These are 10 frame deeps with shallows under them. I checked today expecting to find queen cells and was surprised to not see any. Tons of capped drones thou.
