    Re: D Coates Nuc box

Yes, there is a difference. The Coates design is based on everything being made from 1/2" plywood. To the OP, I couldn't answer about overwintering, but I can say they served me very well last year...

  8. Re: Nectar in every frame, everywhere but the supers!

I don't know, seems I always have one that refuses to move up to build and store. I always just end up having to split when the swarm cells come. Someone will chime in with some good wisdom. Good...

  13. Re: Package yesterday, Hive invasion today

Edgar, my question is why did you come on here and tell us of your problem? Most people come here looking for a solution. I stand beside what I said. I wish you the best, but if you are unwilling to...

Re: Day 5 and into the hive

I dont have ant problems, but seems I read somewhere something about a certain type of ant poison that is dangerous around bees. Not trying to freak you out, just wanted to pass on what I read...

    Re: Thwarting a Swarm

Thanks both of yall, I am going to have to get that book. I am not trying to keep this hive as a production hive, rather, a mother for splits. That being said, I just wanted to make sure I kept the...

Re: Small Hive Beetles and Swarms

Yeah, pure speculation. My point being, the natural order of things. A hive that doesn't swarm makes a lot more honey. That doesn't keep the bees behind. The need to keep the species alive does make...

Re: Installed package. Pain ensued! Help

TJR, get used to it. They are in the hive, chalk it up as a lesson learned. There are all different kind of commentators on this site but it is of great value if you plan to keep bees. In my...

Re: Small Hive Beetles and Swarms

Don't know the answer but it would stand to reason that they go for the same reason the bees do. To start another setup elsewhere and propagate their species. Doubling chance for survival. G
  20. Re: Package yesterday, Hive invasion today

How are you working for this moment for over a year but not prepared to shove a chunk of 3/4" material into the entrance and slap on some screen with thumbtacks if nothing else? I hate having to buy...

    Re: Thwarting a Swarm

Thanks Ruth, Yeah that's what I did last year, basically split the hive in half trying to remove all the QC's for the nuc splits. It all worked out, except then the hive swarmed anyway leaving it...

    Re: Thwarting a Swarm

Interesting, I have a queenless hive now that could use a boost. But then, if they do swarm, this hive will be very light. G
